Did you miss the post where it caused my Ivy Bridge laptop to thermally shut down which usually has an uptime of 300 days or more???

RPL-U/H don't have the issue not heard of a single case about this.

The most powerful H SKUs do degrade, there have been a fair number of reports. Alderon games, one of the first to raise the alarm, had H laptops degrade. I think Epic verified it too? when announcing the switch to all AMD, but I am going by memory and could be mistaken. I do know users on Reddit, and in particular the Intel sub tech support thread, have reported it.

I wonder if you can predict the CPU by game pauses. I watched most of the EWC Dota tourney and there were a lot of pauses. So far in TI groups there have been far fewer.

The only thing Intel screwed was HX/S Chips. Emerald Rapids is fine and so are RPL-H/U and what's funny Raptor Lake is shipping in record volumes

We had 14900k machines for our observers at EWC for Dota 2. Millions of $ in price pool, huge budgets. Biggest esports event of the year.

We had 3 out of 5 observer machines crash about once every 4hrs. In Dota with 199.94 VSync cap.

Tried everything, disable xmp, e cores.

It'd be good to know how old those systems are. Were they built before of after all of the mitigations put in place?

Makes sense. And it's just as scummy as what AMD does by changing the naming scheme to hide old CPUs under a fresh coat of paint/name. But nowhere near the level of scummy as their shenanigans over failing raptor lake though.

And, unlike the 265k, the 9700x on AM5 has an actual upgrade path to Zen 6/7 without requiring a new motherboard. LGA1851 is a dead platform, Arrow Lake refresh not withstanding.

Probably not, but you can never tell with AMD. I suspect it will all boil down to both DDR6 availability and its relative expense at that time.

However, even just limiting to Zen 6 gives the 9700x an upgrade path far superior than LGA1851.

The problem will be for New buyers in 2026 is NVL is going to have Minimum 2 generation of NVL/RZL also Titan Lake is something idk and I will pressume AM5 will only support Upto Zen 6.

So the platform advantage will go to Intel.

Honestly, I don't think this really makes much of a difference. Don't we all look up the cpumark & other specs of a processor before deciding to buy?

Keyword "WE".

Most people judge electronics by other criteria. Like amount of RAM and storage. Keyboard and display quality. Weight etc. If people knew anything about judging CPUs, none of the Atom crap would have sold more than a 100 units in the market. Even now, there's tons of laptops with N series CPUs. All Atom crap.
