Intel proccesor

Ok guys im urgrading my pc once again before i start on my new system. I have a 9800 pro 256 in this one I want something that will push the card. I will have to upgrade the mobo and the ram also but mainly just want an idea on the proccesor

How much can you afford for the board/mobo combo? Do you want to buy low and overclock it, or buy high and run stock speed? What speed is your present RAM? Any interest in an Athlon64 since you're looking at a mobo/CPU combo anyway, or are you sticking with Intel?

just looking for an intel proccessor rite now. I have 1 gig of ram but i plane to get new ram for this mobo and cpu.

if its for gaming, you'll really want to get an athlon 64 since their superior in nearly every way except encoding/decoding (i'm not being biased at all), but since you want intel, you'll want at least a 2.8C cpu, meaning a 2.8GHz cpu based on the northwood core, NOT PRESCOTT! if you want to overclock, you'll be able to get at least 3.5GHz out of it, which is pretty nice. also, tell us how much you plan on spending total for the cpu/mobo/ram upgrade. it'll make it much easier for us to put something together for you.

also, with the video card of yours, its really easy to make it a 9800XT. just softmod it, meaing using a software to just set it as 9800xt.

It was not nice to ignore mechbgons questions. I also wnated to know. If you told us what you used the computer for we could have answered your questions better. The AMD solution might have been the way to go, as 90% of the requests lately have gone that way. If you just want Intel because you like Intel, thats a very ignorant way to buy, but each to his own.

some people are clearly biased on cpu's, and he seems to want an intel even though i recommended him get an amd, but i wont argue. i like amd better hten intel, but i dont hate intel.

I like either one but will amd 3400+ out peform the 3.0 ghz intel in gaming if so then ill get that cause im going for gaming thats about all i do with this pc. Im just worried will i have to switch any of the stuff like cd rom and other things if i get the amd ? i seen a good price on the amd and mobo combo somewhere. Its gonna be for gaming so any help will do. Ive heard all good things about the amd cpus so im up for trying something new.

yes, by far

a a64 2800+ will even beat the 3.0C in gaming, just to let you know. like i mentioned before, the athlon 64 is superior to the p4 in nearly every way besides encoding. with the athlon 64's hypertransport, it gives the cpu killer speeds, making it faster then the pentium. as for intel's hyperthreading, its very good at multi-tasking. as of now, intel is the underdog in the cpu industry, but i'm not sure for how long.

also, if you havent ordered the stuff yet, then i'll make you a compilation of what you should get for the athlon 64 if you want.

Nope man havent ordered it im gonna go with the amd 64 3400+. I was orignally gonna go for the 3400+ but i didnt know if i would've had to change everything in my pc. but yeah if u can give me some suggestions id be more then happy to have them 🙂
