I work at a univeristy and we use two Intel PRO 2011b APs to get a link to the President's house on campus. This works fine having one hooked into our wired lan in our building and the other in his upstairs windows then directly to the pc with a crossover cable. The problem I'm having now is he wants wireless in the house for a laptop. I know these are capable of doing that but it seems the WEP encryption is stopping me. The 4 default keys on the APs aren't in plain text so of course I can just enter that key into the laptop to connect. If I enter a new key that I make up and save it on both APs, they lose connection and the 2nd AP shows it is blocking the first AP. I've tried this several times and it's always the same. The only way to fix them is short pins and reset them to defaults then start over using the default WEP keys. Which makes me go around in cirlces because I don't know what those keys are to enter them into the laptop for a connection! Any ideas???

The access points you have are in bridge mode. The laptop is in gateway mode, simple answer is to get another AP and set it on a different channel. I will let JackMDS give you the link to explain it.
