Intel Prices "Penryn" Xeons

Yay! Finally, a gauge on Penryn prices. Things are looking up for me in the near future... :happyface;

E5405
2.xx GHz
80W 12MB
$209

So does this mean we should expect Q6600 prices to drop even more? If the E5405 can be had for that price shouldn't the price of a Q6600 be near to or maybe even less than this?

I don't think necessarily a drop on Q6600, but a retire of them eventually and then 2.66GHz quads selling in their place or something.

How many megs of cache does a Q6600 have?

Those low-end Xeons will be cheap. Doesn't that mean that there will be 'consumer-level' chips that will be even cheaper?

I'd rather have the Q6600 *now* than to have to wait until Christmas for something similar.

Not necessarily there is going to be a $209 Xeon Clovertown once the Xeon price drops come into effect 1 week after the July 22nd price cuts but it's only 1.6GHZ a far cry from the 2.4GHZ of the Q6600.

The E5405 being 2.xx GHZ is likely only going to be 2.16GHZ judging by the chart with 1066/1333 FSB, so even with 2x6MB of cache it probably won't beat the Q6600 and it is slated for DP operation so you still have to buy 2 of them even at $209. I doubt we will see any price movements on the Quad's till we reach the 45nm Mainstream Yorkfields in 2008, but I could be wrong and who knows a more competitive Phenom X4 or Intel deciding to be even more aggressive may see some more cuts.

The only bummer with these is that the multipliers are really low until you pay ~$450+. Not much point in being able to OC them so much more than the existing chips if you have to buy super-premium RAM to match 500+ FSB to hiy those speeds.🙁
