It doesn't make sense to me that they are getting rid of the brand new Q9450 for a chip with less L2 cache.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I have yet to see a processor that beats the price/performance ratio of a 2140 overclocked to 3.2....
Right?

i forsee golden Q6700's showing up soon.
For some wierd reason i see better clocking chips towrds the end of the cycle as there emptying inventory.

It's more like they're replacing the Q9300 with the Q9400, so increasing the multi, and then replacing the Q9450 with the Q9550, also increasing the multi, thus removing overlap and stepping up the 45nm quads multipliers a notch to increase demand.

Why would existing chips suddenly overclock better?
The reason folks are expecting golden Q6600 is because chips which are currently going into Q6700's will be getting down-binned all the more in order for them to be sold as Q6600's.
I see no rationale to expect Q6700's to suddenly become "better" just because inventory levels are either high or low...there is no "cause and effect" there.

Do they make QX6800's anymore? If not, then happy times are ahead......

nope thats probably still the best deal if you bought it oem or not. The e8400/q6600 & e7200 especially are killer deals right now. (all faster than the e2140 & oc higher too).
Strictly price/performance e2140 is the winner. The x1950gt in your sig is not a win, IMO. why not pick up a 8800gt/3870/9600gt? or even an x1950pro 256mb at the time would have been a better pick.
BTW, I like all the components in your sig (an obvious value shopper like myself!)

I think the point here is that since they won't be making any 65nm dekstop quads other than the Q6600 that means happy times as there will be a lot more Q6600's with what would have otherwise been Q6700's and QX6800's.
But it in no way suggests that the EOL Q6700's or QX6800's will suddenly become great overclockers just because.
The Q6600 will be this generation's Celeron 300A.
