I never tried BF3 on my G530 but with a 8800gt at 1366x768 it played MW3 max everything

I have a G620. Isn't the G620 basically an i3 with disabled HT (3MB cache) and lower clockspeed? I thought the Celerons were a tad different (2MB Cache).

I have a G620 and for the price, it can't be beat. Its faster than almost any Core 2 Duo which is amazing for a $65 chip. It even powers all of my games on High/Ultra with a 465 (at 1366x768)

I wouldn't go with the I3.... the G620 or G530 are better deals, and She will notice no difference.

If only Intel had a nice 2C/4T SKU that fit right in-between the G620 and the i3 2100. Lower clockspeed, but with a decent turbo...that would be a WINNER. Say, about $75.

The Celeron would be Plenty. But neither would be a bad choice, especially if you can find a good deal on the Pentium.

Do you have a local microcenter? Only asking because I walked out the door with tax at $123 for a I3 2100 and a MSI H61 board

If OP doesn't care about gaming, then AM2+ DDR2 MicroATX mobos with decent video (capable of 1080p/BR/etc) can be easily found in the $40-$50 range, and that's the whole cost.

I love building PCs as much as the next geek, but don't really see the need to buy new cpu, new mobo, new ram, when just new mobo will do the trick and perform fine.

If I missed something and there is real need for moar power / gaming duty, then I think the 2100 is a smart bet. Spend a little more $, but get HT and higher clocks = will be usable longer.

when the G620 is at the end of its life, so will the i3 2100.

Spend wisely.

I just built a G840 system and the CPU is quite potent for a dual core.

The best thing about it is that the CPU cooler on the thing is quite silent.

Also recommend the Celeron. I have the G540 and to tell you the truth, theres no noticeable difference in basic tasks when compared to my overclocked 2600k setup. I do have an SSD in it though which helps.

And it helps tremendously. My new budget builds are all G530s on ASUS h61's with 4gb RAM and Corsair Force 3 90GB SSDs on micro-atx cases, people are buying this build like candys because its cheap, its fast and very snappy, tremendous ugprade from 2006/c2d/hdd/intel graphics basic desktops systems and laptops on a very nice price.

That sir, is a great deal!

That is nothing really. I missed out on the best deal they had which was a gigabyte board for $59.99 with a $10 MIR. It would of been $110 plus tax out the door so say $120 with a $10 rebate, that would of been nice but those boards were all long gone. Still I can't complain $123 OTD for a I3 2100 and H61 board brand new is a smoking deal. I didn't have a lot of cash on me or I would of picked up at least a 60GB ssd drive for windows. I am still debating buying a SSD for windows and using my mechanical for my games

Intel really did a good one with these budget SB chips. The celeron G530 I had was plenty fast but I wanted the I3 2100 for the faster clock speed and more cache

What's the price range of that system?

This. When that happens, there will be other budget options that will be better. IB variants should be very good, and there will be a good market for SB Celerons/pentiums/2100s for those with SB-only MBs.

I think the i3 2100 and others in its class could very well be the last dual cores intel makes that will be worthy of purchasing for light gamer's like Bman and myself.

Next generation or when ivy comes out more then likely their only dual cores will be like pentiums without ht but i hope i am wrong.

I know there will be at least one dual core i5. And since thats the case, I'm almost certain there will be i3's.

Wonder what the i5 dual core will offer that the i3 won't?

I could see the i5 dual core being a possible unlocked dual so you can oc it as a good difference while the i3 is locked down.

I want to see what Ivy Brings for dual core. It would be nice to get a k version dual core with hyper threading

I don't see how that happening. But I could be wrong. Is the die for HT cores the same as non-HT cores?

Its the i5-3470T.
2C/4T
2.9Ghz (3.6ghz turbo)
HD2500 Graphics
3mb L3 cache
and a 35w TDP.

How much it costs will be the catch.

I am still using an E7200 and an Intel DG35EC motherboard. Works pretty good for streaming Video on the Internet. I think my next processor with be a i-5 2405S quad core. I was playing Halo for PC on my integrated HD video a few weeks ago.
