is that a decent overclock for those?

thats as high as it will go on default voltage.... do they have more potential with more voltage or is that it?

8xx only have 2MB L2 cache combined. Your sig indicates you have 4MB L2, thats a 9xx series.

And no, I wouldnt want to overclock a 8xx series, the heat is terrible at stock already.

You better check your temps..my 820 was throttling at stock speeds on the stock heatsink. If you are hitting around 72c load at stock speeds, thats about where the throttling kicks in. When you overclock, the throttling tends to kick in at lower temps..and if you are throttling..you'll end up losing performance instead of gaining it.

Tell him to sell it and get a Pentium-D 915, which runs at literally 1/3 the power of a Pentium-D 840 at stock.

it's got a different than oem cooler...some bundle from frys..

anyway, yeah, it hits a brick wall at 3.6, temps are in the mid 50's.....

oh and 9XX series >>>>>>>>>>>>> 840

my 930 @ 3.6 does super pi 1m in 34 seconds, his 840 at the same clock speed does it in a best of 43... 9 second difference
