Intel Pentium D 820 compatibility

I have found these 2 types of Pentium D 820 from newegg and I am wondering are they compatible with each other.

1. Intel Pentium D 820 Smithfield 800MHz FSB LGA 775 Dual Core, EM64T Processor Model BX80551PG2800FN - Retail

2. Intel Pentium D 820 Smithfield 800MHz FSB LGA 775 Dual Core, EM64T, BTX version Processor Model BX80551PG2800FT - Retail

Basically, the only difference is one is for BTX and another is not. Let's say, if I buy the 2nd one which includes a BTX fan, I would like to know if I pull the BTX CPU only and install it to a normal LGA775 motherboard made by Asus, will it work? Besides the fan that comes with each package, the CPU itself should be the same. Please correct me if I am wrong. Thx!!

The only differance between the 2 is the fan. There is absolutly no differance at all with the CPU itself.

EDIT: P.S. there is absolutly no reason what so ever to get an 820, when the 920 runs much much cooler. Smithfields are furnaces, Presler runs a good 7-10c cooler.

Great!! Thanks for your reply!! I will take your suggestion toward my purchase.

By the way, one more question, do you think now is worth the timing to step into the BTX formfactor? Thank you.

There is still a very small amount of BTX cases and motherboards, not really worth it. With the new focus being on cooler running, more efficient CPU's, I don't think BTX will really ever take off.

BTX was stillborn, we all thought it was going to be the next thing. At this point in time it makes sense to think of BTX as the "future form factor" but nothing that will take root in the short term. Only super small form factor Mac Mini type boxes, and other HTPC will really need BTX in the forseeable future.
