I bought one, along with an Asus P5P800SE, and it overclocks to 3.32 Ghz no sweat, stock cooler, stock voltage, stock everything. Just straight up increased the FSB from 133 to 166 and it was good to go. 49 degrees idle, no idea what it is under load. Obviously I think it could go much higher with more voltage, more cooling, etc, but I'm happy where it is so no higher for me.

check out toms hardware, they have an article on the 805...sure it is a crap article..like the rest of toms but it show what the 805 is capable of.

Hey, if you take your stock cooler, lap it, and lap the IHS on the 805D and do a good paste application, you should be able to get temps down enough to go further, from what i've seen 3.5 Ghz on stock volts is common.

I got the asus mobo too but I opted for an XP-90 heatsink with the SKT 775 adapter kit at Sidewinder Computers to make sure it stays cool because the loads make the temps skyrocket and at 67 degrees, its starts throttling. I'm at 3.5Ghz and idle at 41 degrees.

You can't say I didn't warn you ;)

Do you have good airflow in your case? Good airflow could help bring your temps down a little.

Who me? Nope, I stay in the low 60's at the most so no throttling for me. I did listen well indeed :)

Wow, I guess this thing really gets way hotter when you get the speed up there. Because right now at 3.32 I idle at 49, and load at around 57. But yours is a huge range, from 41 to 60's??

How is it a crap article exactly? I thought it was very good and I bought the 805 right after I read it. Is there a better one you could point out?

The THG article is VERY misleading for a few reasons

1) they call it the budget chip and call it 4.1 Ghz for 130$, is it possible? And then go on to use watercooling to get to 4.1 Ghz
2) they use way too much voltage, on watercooling they go up to 1.67volts, and then they release the power draw for an 805D on 1.67volts loading and people are surprised that it's sucking up so much energy.

You should not need watercooling and 1.67v to prime at 4.1 Ghz, personally i think they got a bad overclocking chip or didn't know what they were doing.

Try a good stress tester to see it under load.
A very simple one like Toast should do fine...set to high priority and keep a temp utility running in the background.

How do you make it work both cores? Edit: ah, okay, just run two of them.

Actually, now I realize that I read the wrong temperature for the idle. It actually idles 43, load is still 57. Very impressive for stock cooler, if you ask me. :D

I wish people would stop mentioning Tom's article. He's a month late.
