Chicago (IL) ? Intel already confirmed that 45 nm processors will be in mass-production by the end of the year, but there have been questions about the actual announcement and availability of these new Penryn core-based processors.

According to industry sources, Intel in fact aims to announce the first members of its 45 nm processor family this year, most likely late in Q4. The first Penryn CPU to be available on the market will be the quad-core Yorkfield, followed by the dual-core Wolfdale early in Q1 2008. Clock speeds will be inching up and hit 3.33 GHz, we heard.

It is unclear whether Intel will be able compete this year with AMD's Phenom X4 quad-core processor, which is expected to to launch in November.

45 nm mobile processors will follow in Q1 2008, presumably with a CES 2008 introduction date in the first week of January of next year.

The 65 nm cores will get one more update, with the big news being the FSB1333 6x50 variants (up to 3.0 GHz) coming ?very soon,? according to Intel and the company?s first Extreme Edition mobile processor as well as faster upper mainstream models also being prepped for launch within Q3. Intel is rumored to be planning the release of T7800 (2.6 GHz) and T7900 (2.8 GHz) versions of the CPU.

All I can say is "wow". I'll be buying me a new system in '08, and to think it could be an Intel quad core 45nm is almost unbelieveable. 😀
 
Penryn V8 FTW!!!


My next years comp budget will all be dedicated to that. I decided to forgo the 8950GX2 in sli.

After owning both, im never buying a Nvidia chipset for a Quadcore. The P35 owns it in every aspect.
 
Anyone have a clue when these will be in retail?
Like an actual projected date?

Or are we just hearing late Q4?

My next build is going to be around this processor along with the P35 chipset and so on...

Getting the upgrade bug 🙂

Yep, the difference between the P35 and 680i is like night and day for quads.

Penryn 45nm + ASUS P5K DELUXE + VapoChill LS = Muahahaha! 🙂

It's not confirmed which, if any, Intel chipsets will get actually get SLI.
 
Whoops sorry, i thought it was comfirmed but then realized the article i saw was from the inquirer eek. ummm yea my bad... however there's always hacked drivers to sold the SLI issue 😛

Whew...man you had me going there for a moment. I JUST bought this SLI motherboard..thinking there wouldn't be any Intel SLI chipsets. I also had read that rumour but NVidia had said there was no truth in it.

I've heard that hacked driver performance is not that great.
 
I been keeping my eye on the QX6850 but i'm not to sure if its been comfirmed that X35 will do SLI i am using the ATI card now but look to upgrade my Vid. soon also not sure where to go with this one..

Err, that's just another Inquirer article. Furthermore, they didn't give any source for their proof that "Nvidia is full of it" and that there will be SLI on the X38.

IF that is true, and that is a big IF, the X38 is going to be AWESOME! Support for SLI AND Crossfire AND great support for quad cores. I'm excited!
