I'm building both my girlfriend and me a new computer. I'll be getting the new C2D E6600. Looking at the motherboards that are available, I noticed that the P965 Express requires that if you use DDR2-800 it must have 1.8V operation. Looking at other people's builds I noticed them buying RAM that doesn't use 1.8V.

So my questions to you are what motherboard would be good for our E6600? What should I do about this 1.8V restriction? And if I can get around this restriction, what kind of RAM should I get?

Thanks for you help! I did my best to look for my answers going through the forums. Thanks!

(Motherboard Budget = $100-$200, would also want up to 1-2GB of RAM, and the E6600 hasn't been purchased yet)

It depends what you want to do with your system. If you want to do nosebleed overclocks and all that then you will want to look at high-end RAM choices although if you want a really simple overclock you can use inexpensive DDR2-800 and not even have to overclock your RAM.

Most of the better boards don't have issues booting up with RAM that needs out of spec voltages. Although you don't need to get high dollar RAM to make a C2D run good. The C2D is not as memory bandwidth critical as older CPU's by both Intel and AMD. I'd recommend a good cheap and reliable brand but certain people would mock me for it. Let's just say to let Newegg be your guide. Get something that is rated at 1.8v or 1.9v and has a lifetime guarantee from a company that has been in business at least 10 years, a high customer satisfaction rating, and you will have no problems. ;)
