How to make a P4 Celeron: Take 1 already bandwidth and cache castrated P4 Willamette, castrate it some more, whack it in a box and sell it, and get same performance as equivelent AMD running at a 50% slower clockspeed.

Thanks for the responses guys, I was almost going to buy a Cel. tonight. I'm glad I saw this thread. Guess I'll hold out for a Northwood chip.

yeah a P4 cellery would get raped.... but a P3T cellery could rape its bigger brother...
(yeah i know thats sounds really bad)
P4 cellery are crap... if you could overclock a 2Ghz to 3Ghz it be good for making Divx/Mp3 files but 2Ghz at stock will run slower then a P4 1.6A ghz
P3T cellery would run better and is less money...

Too bad the Tualatins are getting low in stock nowadays :( But good thing is that it's still darn cheap!

P4 Celerons are worthless.
the 1.7 is the weakest FPU/clock out of any previous Celeron.

I would like to see that :)

Can you run a 1.7 Ghz p4 Celeron with passive cooling?

Maybe not a popular opinion, but PIV celeron is not so bad for John and Martha. I really doubt they are going to get to the point any time soon where AOL and MS Word are going to be dog slow on that 1.7 Celeron.

It also provides a potential upgrade path with socket 478.

I would never, ever suggest one for someone who needs performance, but if I was building a system for my mother right now, a PIV celeron on a 845 chipset would be on my list of possibilities.
