A friend have bought a p4 box, but doesnt like the noise level from it.
What size fan are on it?

Can he just replace it with a 80mm lownoise fan, or is it a special size??

Having never owned a p4, I dont know the size.

Also whats the best cooler where noise is the priority. NO overclocking needed.

Thanks..

The best heat sink with no oc'ing is the stock hs, if you wanna quiet it down, put a nice Panaflo on top. I believe the stock fans are 80mm. :)

Lizardman is right, the stock P4 HS has a 70mm fan on it. You really can't replace that fan without doing some kludgy mods. The stock fan is integrated into a mounting assembly that clips onto the top of the heatsink.

The retail P4 HSF is very quiet, I can't beleive your friend thinks it's too loud. If you want to get a quieter aftermarket fan you're going to need to look at an Alpha 8942 or the Swiftech 4000 heatsink. You can put your choice of quiet 80mm fans on either of those sinks.

Well, he does have some Mac's without any fan at all he compares it with, so it have to be really quiet for him to live with :)

I will have to look into those coolers, I kind of expected Alpha and Swiftech, since they are among the best on the AMD side also :D
