The minimum system requirements of Gothic 3:

http://www.aspyr.com/product/game_specs/54

The minimum CPU speed required is AMD 64 3200 or Intel P4 2.0GHz. How can that be possible, either they need a A64 3200 or Intel P4 3.4GHz or AMD 2200/2000 XP and Intel 2.0GHz.

How can they even compare a A64 3200 to a Intel P4 2.0GHz???

The recommended requirements seem more practical, Intel 3.0GHz dual core or AMD 64 4000.(Thank God I have oced mine to AMD 64 3800 speeds, I can go a little higher almost 4000 speeds if I want to).

They are morons!!! A 2.0ghz model was only made in a A model northwood w/o HT and there is no way it is even close to comparable to an A64 3200 (2ghz model)...more like a Barton 3200+...

Way to many question marks! (haha, just kidding)

I think a lot of the people who make up the system requirements for games have no idea what they're doing. Obviously an Athlon 64 3200 is much much faster than a P4 2.0GHz or an Athlon XP 2200.

RECOMMENDED SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
Intel Pentium D 3.0 GHz or AMD Athlon 64 4000+

I thought the minimums might have been a misprint till I read the recommended requirements.

alot of games are like that....they compare it to a bottom line P4...and puts the GHZ thing in to make a similar AMD system...

i had a friend who wanted to play a game and the requirements were a 2.0ghz processor...he had a 1.8ghz turion and he just didnt install the game because he thought his processor wasn't fast enough.

I notice under "Supported (GPU) Chipsets" they list the Radeon X700 and X850, but not the X800. Also Geforce 7300, 7800 but not 7600. Perhaps some product-knowledge gaps there.

Wasn't the 7600 and 7900 released after the 7800 and 7300 series?

The best I can think of is that they're going by actual mhz rather than rated speeds.

No I think the 7600 and 7300 series came out simultaneously. That was also when the 7900 launched.

Regardless, the X800 is older than all of them, so why it's not there is a mystery.

Even if they are rating by speeds, no.1 it doesn't make any sense becuase performance is never like that. No.2, there will be many athlon around 2GHz, why aren't they stated as minimum then. No.3, Intel D 3.0GHz or AMD 64 4000 @ 2.4GHz both are recommended.

If that's true it's the first game I've seen with 4000+ recommendation. Wow, so that game wants you to run it with the fastest single-core desktop CPU ever made.. (sans FX/EEs of course) Interesting..

A 2GHz P4 to going to struggle in that game, even if it met the official minimum CPU requirements.

Well, most A64 oced system come close, even if you are at 2.4GHz, that is the speed of AMD 64 4000 but actually equals the 3800 due to lack of cache.

it is either a typo:
Intel Pentium 4 2.0 GHz or AMD Athlon 64 3200+

perhaps they meant P4 3.0 . . .

but that is doubtful because the Recommended specs have another big mismatch:
Intel Pentium D 3.0 GHz or AMD Athlon 64 4000+

i will be very glad to trade my P4 @ 3GHz rig for an AMD 64 4000 rig
:Q

any takers :p

unless the Gothic3 Devs have discover a way to release the HT Power of the Pentium

or was that Pentagram?

:D

looking forward to the benchmarks

I've noticed this is a common mistake on some newer games. Rather unfortunate.
