Ahhh I see, sorta like the chicken and the egg.
Without Intel we would have no Pentium, but without Pentium Intel would have nothing to sell so they wouldn't exist

So how could Intel come first? But the Pentium obviously can't come first becuase it needed intel to make it.

i'll go amd when they make a good dual board with onboard ultra160. >>
Tyan Thunder K7. Dual Socket A, PCI64 slots, onboard U160 SCSI. AMD760MP chipset.
BFG10K: Yes we certainly do...but newbies don't always know how to search.
Anyway to the question, as I said, search you'll find this covered lots. I think you'll find the general concesus is that AMD and Intel are similar in performance (not at the same absolute clock, but a P41.7Ghz and Athlon1.33Ghz are both the top range product and are both competetive), but AMD costs a lot less for the performance.
I'd take Intel just for the chispets because (with the exception fo the i820) Intel has the best chipsets in the business.
But I'm tight for money, so I go AMD.
But boy oh boy is my new AMD board giving me headaches :|
Even after a clean install of Win2k I get BSODs every time I try to use my TV-Tuner and IE at the same time. Or just use my H+ at all

.
I hate my new rig :|
