Intel Or AMD?

I have been an Intel fan ever since P1 and have never really given AMD a chance. However I am considering trying a AMD64 for my next upgrade. Before I make my decision thoug I have a few questions 🙂. First is AMD really faster? I have read that it is in gaming but not so much in other things. I do a lot of gaming but I also use Photoshop, Visual Studio, Maya, etc. A lot as well. Is Intel better for running my none game applications? Second should I upgrade now or later? With PCIe coming before too long (supposedly) Should I wait until then? I have heard that right now the performance diffrence between AGP 8X and PCIe are pretty small. Thanks for your help! 🙂

Edit: Also third if I do upgrade what should I go for? My current system is below and I would like a nice performance increase that will last me a while.
 
Alright thanks for the advice I am sure you know how it is just cant wait to build another new computer! 😀 Btw what sort of interesting things will be coming? any links you could give me? or is it stuff I have already read about here at Anand? Ty again.
 
PCI express this fall. DDR2 next spring. Your current rig is sufficient for anything you'd need right now.
