Thank you my brave brothers for standing up and defending the great name of Intel! Intel is a staple of computer perfection that lasts. That is poised to one day smite this pretentious beast known as AMD once and for all.

I'm not defending intel or AMD, really AMD makes a great chip, and if your buying the chip alone and not going through OEM you should buy AMD. What I am defending is that right now if you want to get the most for your money, there is no better option then Dell. Hopefully Dell starts using AMD chips soon.
I would go with AMD, I have very similar usage patterns, plus tiny bit gaming. Used to be 100% Intel for a few years but after switching over to AMD I find cooling to be easier and web browsing/programming (compiling)/office apps much more responsive on AMD than my old Intels. As for stability I am quite satisfied with the AMD CPU, no crashes or problems whatso ever. And if you ever need to upgrade, AMD has better upgrade options, buy the 939 A64 socket CPUs, you can start with a single core then just buy a duel core later if need arises. From stand point of stability.cost.speed.upgrad options.easy cooling. I'd highly recommand AMD.

NEWAY seriously. It's like this if you r going to build your pc get amd because its the best chip out right now. Doesnt mean that intel sucks like these bandwagon AMD fanatics will have you thinking. Its just that amd scores better on benchmark test right now(not buy much i might add, its not like AMD is the star trek holodeck and intel is a board game or something). With that being said lets be honest, if you are not a techno geek like most of the cats on here than it doesnt really apply to you cuzz you r not going to know that damn differance anyway. So you can play half-life 2{(800x600) at 126 fps instead of 96fps, after 50-60 fps i cant tel lthe diff. but maybe thats just me. Yeah but Neway if you r going to build a pc go with amd because you have to worry about cooling problems and etc. as you would with intel(which is a power monger) But if your just some dude that doesnt really know what the hell to do with a bunch of computer componets(like most of humanity) then by damn get a pre built one. And the best i would recommend is a Dell. They r a very good company and they'll take care of you(tho after you buy that comp thier customer service gets a bit dirty with you) DELL is a very good solid pc, and if you want a gaming one go for the XPS (must reviews would agree with me, most not all) i have a suped up 400 and i know that i can play all the new games on the highest settings possible and i do mean highest, run a virus scan, download a few mp3's, and encode a viedo all at the same time and i notice virtually no hiccups during play, its pretty amazing. So give it a shot either way. If you building go AMD, if you buying go Dell(which only comes in intel for now, and with a DELL yo wont ever have to worry about heat problems, well at least mine i dont.)...............and buy GOD get a good video card, dont matter really if you get amd or intel, if you have a kick @$$ vid card you wont be sorry......................................and for that monkey "imanub" it's not that im not open minded its just that i stick by intel, i like to go aginst the grain not become part of the "new fad" besides man you need to upgrade that ancient comp of yours before for you have the right to speak to me. lol im joking man.

Dude calm down dont get your panties in a bunch! I was just sticking up for my comp and the name intel, if you read my last post i gave a fair assesment of AMD. Man do you run AMD or something is it like your dads company cuzz you seem mad like i took a shot at you. Goodness man calm down. Sorry your intel ran hot (did you build it) but mines run smooth as the rivers in heaven. Im glad they make AMD for people like you. Everybody on this fourm can tell im just trying to plug my love for intel i guess it just went over your head sorry man(i mean look at the end of my sig for god sake, cant u tell im being sarcastic but at the same time expressing my love for intel), can i offer you a cookie or something maybe a cold drink. Again, "sticking up for Intel cause they are great" when they aren't, makes you a fanboy. I go for the best speed, or value, or best bang/buck depending on who I make a system for, and right now, Intel looses on all counts.
And in my opinion, fanboys are pathetic, sorry if you fit the bill. If the shoe fits, wear it.
As for my system running hot, I am sure even yours does, as everyone here who owns one, including you admits thats, so of course mine runs hot, and its OC'ed.

it does seem crazy they r puttin gpu's and new systems and chips like crazy. thye need to slow down a bit, let software catch up.

This is so greatly awful. Most of web sites and forums, they always suggest you a best system for now is going to AMD site for best cooling, best OC, and best performance and no hassle Heat problem, not much money from your pocket. So that's why I was leaning to AMD and now I have it. There's something wrong that people don't give you any ideas about Nvidia problems, even I see many threads before, but I convinced me to buy AMD because of best ratio of performance and money, besides they don't include TPM, DRM in hardware like in your new intel chipset i945 and i955.
Please people watch back a little. Over and over, we see many problems from AMD, not from Intel. Can you please calculate how many threads concerning about Nforce problems in AMD sites, Anandtech sites, Asus VIP site,v.v... always we see AMD system problems. We understand that, but Marketing hype is always something that is very strong, they cover us very good, their charts always show AMD leading in everything. But the fact is NOT TRUE.
As you see, first update from Intel site, I buy X2 3800... Oh man, it runs too slow in game, sometimes it runs slower than Intel Presty. Then I buy the new x2 4200. Surely it runs faster, but not all of applications that you put in it. One thing I accepted that it runs game smoother, but not magically, like I test, with 2 GB Corsair 3500 Pro, GF 7800 GTX, I need to OC my proc to 2.6 to run Age of Empire 3 with all of options turn on in 1280 x 1024 mode. Something I want to say more, people like to yell out abuses that AMD always win with their OVERLOCKING performance. Not right man, when compare something, we need to count on Normal clock, not OC.
In AMD site, one thing I want to add, you buy your Nforce4 motherboard, but you cannot run 4 sticks with DDR400, it auto slower to 333 MHz, but your manual don't say it. Data corruption, some have it, and some don't have, but you cannot refuse the fact that is exist Nforce4 problem. For example, I am trying to use another NIC (3 COM) and Dlick wireless NIC, I still have a data corruption. So don't say: you don't know to install NIC and don't use Nvidia NIC.
Plus, I move from A8N-SLI Premium to A8N32-SLI to hope this new platform don't have this problems because I convinced me 1 more time based on 8 Phase Very Stable Board. Arrggg, A8N32-SLI deluxe still have problems with 4 sticks of RAM compatibility, even with 2 slots, you still have it, but rarely.
I don't concern more other problems like drivers,....But I'm very dissapointed.
Summary: AMD X2 still be a good processor, maybe better in general, but the problem is that we don't have the best motherboard outthere.

Dam I wanted to get the x2 4400. But what your saying is scaring me lol. How about a Operton 175? Isn't that like a x2 4400?

One thing, I cannot stop it. I'm on AMD now and I pay alot. So there's only one choice is that you are thinking about server platform, maybe Opteron 940 or 939.

X2 4400 is fine, inf your overclocking try and get the opteron, theyre both excellent CPU's. Today they will runs games perfectly, typically games will be GPU limited, with the games of tomorrow, they will run them either at the same speed as today, or faster due to dual core multi threading optimisations. Two cores is the first real future proofing ive seen. An X2 4400 wont run slow in games unless you pair it with a crap graphics card.
Also the nforce chipset is an excellent stable chipset, mobos that use it for the most part are also pretty damn good, the only one to worry about is VIA, and their K800 chipset. Dont get me wrong its still good, but just not as good as nforce4, also the K8T890? dosent support dual core (it should, its due to some fault that it dosent) whereas the K8T800 PRO does, rather confusing.
That other guy saying the x2 runs slower than the intel "presty" in games is complete bs. Intel unfortunately gets mauled in gaming performance and its been that way since the release of the first A64 and will stay that way until Conroe (intels new architecture to replace netburst) gets here in a few months time.
I'll grant that this is probably true formally speaking. AMD could have just made clones of everything Intel did, and tried to compete on price, but they took the legacy of their original deal and ran with it, and in the process branched out and created new architectures, and technologies that are in many ways more innovative than what Intel has been able to achieve. Since most hardware vendors were designing for Intel, it no-doubt took time for all the offerings to stablize on AMD platforms.
But in practical terms today I think very few people have problems, largely due to the hardware abstractions that MS introduced into their operating systems, that isolate board level issues to drivers. I've been running an X2 4400+ for something like four months now, and I don't have issues of any kind related to the AMD chip.

Trying to click on your sig and I don't see what rig you have now. But I really hate someone swears out something is good but he don't have it in hands.
Games GPU limited = WRONG... many sites say that we have CPU Limite now. Besides, I have GF 7800 GTX 256 Mb. What better then?
X2 4400 little faster than MY X2 4200: but I'm sure that one runs slows under my stat before I write if not overclock to 2.6 with nearly best my system now. And my rig with 3DMark05 has 7820 points not OC.
Do you read clearly before putting any input. I say X2 3800 runs SLOWER than Presty. I don't have time to specific what kind of Presty that I test. It's on Presty 775 chipset 945 Asus, 650 CPU (3.4), 2 Gb OCZ dual, 7800 GTX.
Please don't put any input if you don't have that machine...or just imagine its in your head. Please Do Answer or Help others when you really can DO and have it in Hands.

With poorly coded games like FEAR, at high settings, these GPU's will be brought to their knees. GPU's have a short product cycle when compared to CPU's so we become GPU limited far quicker, CPU's have been fine for games, even modern games for a while now. An thlon 3200+ will generally be fine unless you wanna run at extreme settings.

I say this is BS because you are misleading people into thinking AMD make inferior gaming processors, which is opposite of the truth.
Show me the rule on anandtech that states "THOU MUST HAVE THINE HARDWARE IN THINE HANDS TO COMMENT ON THEE!" I cant seem to find that particular rule can you?
Also, as for the helping others, i said it before and ill say it again, the OP's question HAS BEEN ANSWERED, he has hopefully been helped in deciding AMD or Intel, by the detailed an informative replies on the first page. You wanna go start an Intel vs AMD fight? Start a new thread.

The X2 cannot be described as having "poor performance" when the difference is like 4-10 fps.... x2 FTW
Note: these games arent multi threaded like quake 4. Future games will be, and current games are recieving patchs for dual core.
Whats that i see? An increase of 20-40 fps! WOW!
Yea i mustve imagined the X2 benchmarks that show it performing better than the prescott.... That x2 link above is imaginary, dont click it. Its not really there!!
