HI,

Lets say I buy intel ssd nvme 750 series.

Put in into pci e adapter and install it in PC,

Question: the pci e adapter is pcie 3.0x4 so if I put it into pcie 2.0 x8, will the ssd gain the additional bandwidth or will it remain stuck at x4 speeds the one that in pcie adapter?

Thanks

It does sound like the motherboard is limited to the 2.0.
No what I mean is if he is going to stick it into a pcie slot anyway, why not skip using an adapter and get the ssd in pcie form factor directly. Pcie 3.0 cards work in 2.0 slots.

I'd look at the total cost of your options and choose whatever one you feel best suites your needs. I plan to go pcie for my next boot drive for additional speed on a budget.

@sdifox: My mistake.

The 750 series seems to have two submodels: U.2 and x4 PCIe connectors. Thus options are:
* x4 PCIe connectors model
* U.2 model and adapter

Total cost is a good criteria, like Puffnstuff said.

If one is planning to shift to a motherboard in the future that has U.2, that might affect the decision. I'm lost at all the connectors. Which ones are already practically dead?

U.2 is new but pcie isnt going anywhere soon. U.2 hooks into pcie anyway.

Humm, wonder what happened there. It quoted a whole bunch of posts several times. Had to wait til I get to desktop to try to fix it.
