Intel Matrix Storage driver

I have a Asus P5K-E mobo with SATA drives running Vista 32bit. The BIOS is set for AHCI mode. I know Vista has AHCI support out of the box. Do I still need to install the Intel Matrix Storage driver/software?

I couldn't get it to install with my Gigabyte DSL3 with AHCI enabled and vista x64. Though I was able to extract the exe and manually install the drivers for the AHCI controller.

WHen I attempt to install it I receive a message telling me the driver already installed on the system is newer than the one Im trying to install. I assume the Windows Vista version is the one that is newer. What benefit does installing the Intel Matrix software give me?

I believe the software performs the monitoring/rebuild operations for RAID arrays. If you're using single disks (non-RAID) then there shouldn't be a need for the software.
