Yes, significant advantages to having an on-die memory controller and a different topology on which CPUs communicate with memory and the rest of the components only show up in multi-socket servers and workstations. On the vast majority of desktops and laptops it offers no real benefit.

This sounds good, very good.

Just like Netburst was supposed to scale up to 4ghz :p

Originally ... Netburst was supposed to scale to 10Ghz
--i wonder when we will see 10Ghz :p
[probably first on a GPU, the way they are going ..
... and a 10Kw PS]

EDIT: nullpointerus, well you know i couldn't have copied your idea ... and next Tues my posting handicap is eliminated .. i am getting Broadband ... after 7 years of 56K it is finally coming to my rural home

Well, well, well... Looks like we are going to have to find a game to play online once you get broadband! Find a nice co-op game :D

Of course ... an old guy still has reflexes, you know; Newman was still auto racing into his 70s - even if my mind or posts aren't as sharp anymore :p
... what game? i need to practice

preferable something new ... isn't BioShock going to be co-op?

what was this topic about?

... sorry

oh yeah ... when are we gonna see 10Ghz?

:D

I hope BioShock is co-op... If so, lets just make it that game. Otherwise, we could wait for Gears of War, since that has a very good co-op built into it.

Sadly, I believe the co-op market is untapped and the first company to make an effort on co-op SP game will make a killing... I seriously think devs have overlooked this potential market.

And just to keep on topic... 10Ghz! No way!

I couldn't agree more. Since I have witnessed a York running at 4.4 ghz @ 1.39v. I am very excited about recieving my york. I should say that I don't know what M/B was used on this system . But the guy that has it did say everthing came from Intel directly. He also said he is expecting the 2 socket M/B and cpu's shortly.
Now if and I said if . This M/B has 2 fsb's and runns on DDR3 . This is what I will buy. Not that I will ever use that kind of power. But it would be so cool to own.

My e-penis would be very large for sure. The one thing that would derail this line of thinking would be the O/C ability of a 2 socket system . But the way Intel has been exacuting lately it wouldn't surprize me if this is an overclocking monster also.

Now for those of you in denial about high clocked 4core penryns.

1). I have seen one.
2). Intel themselves have said penryn has ability to either save 20% in effiency or O/C by 20% at same v. Plus its between 10-20% faster @ same clocks. Depending on chipset and memory type. I suspect that DDR3 @ 1600 and low latency is going to bring about a sizeable increase in performance with the X38 chipset on penryn which will beable to take advantage of those faster DDR3 memory modules.
3). We have already seen some guys with G0 hitting 3.6 stable on QC . You add in a 20% increase in clocks on penryn . Thats 4.320ghz add on a very good water cooling system and 4.4 ghz is a no brainer . Since I have seen such a setup . I am more than a little excited about the prospects of PENRYN performance. Can you say 9 second super PI without getting giddy?

yes, and 6 mos after penryn comes out we will have nehalem and 5 second superpi. however, amd will have their x2 6800+ to compete with it!
