Intel licensing AMD's GPU tech?

The fact you don't realize projects such as these are in the works for quite some time before we ever find out about them suggests you probably have even less of an idea on what's involved to make it work.
So in your opinion, how long ago did intel start to plan the integration of amd igpus into their cpus?
Or, what are you talking about?

I don't have an opinion on the matter other than knowing that when an architectural change takes place, it's planned out and not a spontaneous event as your post seemed to suggest.

Overspecific denial.

"The recent rumors that Intel has licensed AMD's graphics technology are untrue"

1. It could mean they are still in negotiation
2. They could buy complete GPU chips, so not really a licensing deal.
3. They could be negotiating about selling RTG to Intel

I would like to hear Intel and AMD to say there never will be an AMD/RTG GPU in Intel CPUs, and Intel will not buy any part from AMD.

Chip giant Intel (INTC) tonight refuted rumors it is licensing graphics chip technology from Advanced Micro Devices (AMD).

In a statement sent to Tech Trader Daily by an Intel spokesperson, the company said "The recent rumors that Intel has licensed AMD's graphics technology are untrue."

Is and has are two different tenses.

I suppose the other question is - can Intel do competitive graphics without stepping on the IP of either Nvidia or ATi?

That's basically what you are thinking will happen, you can't just replace the intel igpu with a amd igpu they aren't interchangeable/compatible modules, a project like that would take years, just take a look at how long amd expected fusion to take to finish and how much later the first apu actually came out,you can't just scotch tape these components together.

Of course you can't scotch tape them together. You need duct tape for something like that...

😀

I'm sorry. Couldn't resist. 🙂

News Flash !
Intel has begun using Duct Tape as an Interposer to connect Intel CPUs to AMD Graphic Processors !
Remember , You've read it here First !

I'm sorry. Couldn't resist either ... but you started it 🙂

OK, so this can be completely put to bed (my pondering the wording of Intel's release is now shown to be erroneous):

A few sources guessed that the rumor made sense because the Intel-Nvidia patent-licensing agreement was coming to an end. Upon actually reading the Nvidia document it clearly states that the licensing agreement continues until the patents expire. As explained by Mark Hibben over at SeekingAlpha, that effectively means that Intel has full use of Nvidia's relevant patents into perpetuity, and that means Intel has no reason to license graphics patents from anyone else.

well, it uses Hibben as a source...lol.

That guy wrote two articles within the same number of days, floating the exact same rumor about the license, and then rejecting it after Intel's statement. Hilariously, he managed some minor "praise" for AMD on that day (the guy hates AMD more than Gargamel hates Smurfs), then pooped out his 2nd article as if the precious one never occurred, ranting about AMD fanboys being stupid, yet again. lol.

Shouldn't we question that now? It's probably Intel graphics with HBM2?

No, because Intel wouldn't really have to license any IP if the GPU die came straight from AMD.

Kaby-G of course still has the GT2 graphics so it's more like having a discrete GPU fused with HBM2 in the package than anything else. Intel could of course just have AMD supply the GPU die for later releases and just fuse it in via EMIB.

The only thing i have to remind you is that two months ago, hardly anyone believed the Chinese rumors about a X399 platform from AMD, nor AMD had confirmed any related information.

Well the X399 platform is being released this summer...

Somebody tell these giants to make a collaborative L4-HBM2 to put the Nvidia giant to rest please. #*Bury the hatchet*
