The company unveiled a new high-tech chip, called the PXA800F, on Thursday. The chips are designed for a new generation of phones that allow for high-speed data transmission such as online games and videoconferencing. The first models using it could appear later this year, with large-scale production likely in the first half of 2004.

The new chips are considered groundbreaking because they combine a central processor, applications processing and flash memory on a single chip -- a move that not only standardizes those three key functions but also saves battery power.

Yeah, my Qualcomm stock tanked today when this news broke, but then Lehmann came out in defense of QCOM -

"Qualcomm defended at Lehman on Intel, China concerns (QCOM) 33.78 -2.78: -- Update -- Lehman believes that concerns over INTC's new mobile GSM chip may be overdone, since QCOM does not currently compete in the GSM chipset mkt and INTC has been attempting to increase its profile in the wireless chipset mkt for several years with only limited success....
 
Meh, my 3 year old Motorola does everything I need. Only thing I'd wish for is better battery life. I'll be sticking to Motorola anyway, I've had great experiences with them.
