Nemesis QUIT rambling in this thread. Goddamnit I can't follow the good discussion going on here because you interject with your page long posts every 3-4 posts. Please keep your thoughts concise and on topic.

Lol, could be worse. Imagine both Nemesis and apoppin in this thread! (KIDDING!)

/offtopic

Even though apoppin uses an extremely excessive amount of punctuation/exclamation and accompanying smilies/emoticons, it is at least legible

Whats interesting about larrabee is that they can really scale the cards any way they want by simply adding more cores and Intel's manufacturing is one of the best. Nvidia & AMD also have modular designs but the limiting factors are still heat, power, and die space. I think speculation that we are going to start seeing software graphics engines go mainstream again is way off. This is Intel's first step into the performance video card market. I don't expect it to have the maturity to be a major competitor in this first generation. I am curious to see if this has any effect on the adoption of ray tracing.

Right now, I can only pass on the official word:

Offset will be exclusive to select Intel-based platforms.

We look forward to being able to discuss more details in the future.

I was saying this.

This Game.

Is going to be released with Larrabee. It will also only play on Larrabee hardware.

A bold step by Intel. I am thinking A game engine that will use RTR such as Offset.

Than ya got to love the Havak software which will be fully utilized in this game. Along with true motion blurr.

If this game succedds all hell will break loose

.

I'll proclaim this now: Project Offset will not be Larrabee only. Intel-based most likely means PC/Mac based, aka not on consoles. Going larrabee only would be a fantastic way to instantly and drastically reduce your game sales. It just won't happen.

To be fair, Intel's not in it to make a profit selling games. They're trying to artificially induce the creation of the killer app that will sell Larrabee, so if it only runs on Larrabee all the better. Not that Project Offset is something is something I was paying much attention to in the first place.

Paul Tozour says it will be intel platform (SELECT) EXCLUSIVE. That means exactly what it says. Intel isn't tring to sell games . But a concept . So project offset is a proof of concept idea. I think intel knows exactly how they want to spend their money.

What better way to show off your tech ? Than to bring out a game that only your system is capable of running. Than run all the games ATI /NV can do for the frosting on the cake.

Every day Intel surprizes me more and more with their play book . You have to admitt. Intel in recent history has been running smooth with all cylinders of the dynamic engine running smoothly. Something all of us should applaud.

I just hope they can pull off this CPUGPu. Its exciting. NV is pushing cuda hard . Cuda to me looks very promising also. Its a matter of who does what best and how much work is involved. Either way its good for us. I am just betting on Intel . They just have so much talent and resources that its hard to ignor them .

Most would say that Larrabee is the wild card here. But I would say the wildcard will be played by AMD/ATI . 2009 is going to be interesting year.
