Intel Kills Project Offset

'Tis a sad day indeed. Was kinda watchin this one over the last couple years too. I'm guessing the death of Larabee spelled the death of this incarnation of P.O as well. Maybe some other company will pick this up and run with it (wishful thinking).

They can dump billions into failed products and drop them... but a game engine that clearly would have made them money... naw, not worth it.

It's like the movie studios that kill off major franchises because "only" make 50 million.

That's a shame, it was looking like a good game. If only Larabee had worked out, the GPU market would be very different than it is today.

Been saying it for years, Intel couldn't compete(Performance wise) in Video if their Lives depended on it. Via has a better chance of coming up with something than Intel will ever have. Unless, of course, Intel Buys Nvidia.

nvm the game itself, the engine behind it could've been a base for many games and even movies that look much better than what we're used to.

Ya this sucks. But Intel supports AMD with billion dollar checks. and the EU . So its no big loss . Hell by the time SB gets here that oil well still be flowing freely into the Gulf and Life will look very differant to us all . Shit happens and its happening now.

This is almost incoherent the way you try to tie one random object with the next.

Intel cancels a game + its engine somehow ties to sandy bridge i can see.

But oil? what?

I'm still sad larabee died. an x86 GPU would have been interesting to say the least. (though, x86 is a bit bloated as far as instruction sets go)

It's just early. It will return in a different form in the future i'm sure.

Agreed, it's just a matter of time. Every huge company out there will always diversify into different markets, Intel has gone into SSD and they will definitely return to the graphics card market for as long as there are tonnes of money to make there.
