If Intel quit, guess what happens to AMD CPU prices? Neither company going down is good. If they both had 50% market share, THAT would be good.

PS: Can some Intel supporter tell me why you should choose Intel over AMD at this point in time?

The competition between AMD and Intel is what keeps us happy, it makes them both release faster CPU's at lower prices. When Intel had a lock on the market, releases were slow to come out, very expensive, and were often just marketing gimmicks (which is why so many people hate them, I think). Remember the 486SX, where they had to ADD a step to manufacturing it in order to cripple the CPU? But it killed the market for AMD 386 CPU's, which was their goal.

No reason to choose an Intel processor at this point in time.

However, I believe everyone here is underestimating the future P4. When it moves to the .13 micron process it should be at 10Ghz (ten Ghz) within the next 4 years and well optimized for applications then . And Intel should be rid of Rambus long before then. The real question is - can AMD keep up? (I hope so.)

Check out a credible and technical article showing the potential of the P4

From a purely business perspective, Intel is still Goliath and AMD is still David and nothing is going to change that anytime soon. Enjoy the competition and the lower prices brought on by AMD's market penetration stategies.

If it weren't for the FTC and other federal watchdog agencies, Intel has the financial muscle to squash AMD like a bug. But they won't and can't. I own both.

I have always had AMD processors right back to my K5 PR133 and I think that I always will...
The Intel & AMD competition is a bit like Ford Falcon and Holden Commodore here in Australia - some like Ford and then some like Holden, and most (not all) don't know why. You could sware till your blue in the face and still not convince some people that one is better than the other.
Personally I'm a Holden guy, but I also understand that some like Ford too.. (if we didn't have Ford Falcon we would just have the Mitsubishi Magna and Toyota Avalon!!)
We need this competition in all areas otherwise there would be no (or very little) development and everything would be boring...

Cheers :)
