If I bought a processor at $180 last week, will Microcenter price match to the new price? My local MC doesn't have anymore 920s in stock if that makes any difference.

Cheers!

For those of you who purchased within the last 30 days:
Call your store. Select Option #1 (Sales) and tell them your Reference # at the top of your receipt. Give them your info and you'll receive your credit. Takes less than 3 minutes.
Note: this will only work over the phone if you paid with credit/debit (according to their CS). Good luck

Great thanks for the info! I'll do that this afternoon.

Thanks. I did the call in thing today. (I am in RI and purchased at the Boston, Ma MC). Waited on hold for 5 min. Got a rep who refused. Flat out told me it could not be done. I asked to speak with a manager. Literally waited on hold for 20 min, no one ever picked up permanently. Called the corporate office and got it done in 5 min. Amazing how these monkeys are allowed to just flat out lie to people. I suppose they're doing what they're told and holding the company line, but come on...

Should have told the corporate office the name of the rep who told you it could not be done...

i was just about to go buy one when i decided to look up ram prices.. WTF!!!
I bought 4GB of DDR2-800 ram for 30$-15$ rebate a year and a half ago... I remember seeing DDR3 @ 70$ for 3x2GB triple chanel kits a year ago... now the cheapest I can find is 150$ for a 3x2GB kit and 2x2GB is 100$.

So as good a deal as this is, the price of DDR3 makes it an unacceptable upgrade (even before I look into the cost of the mobo, shudder).
I guess I will be sticking with my q9400 a little longer :(

hmmmm.
46.8 mi one way
93.6 mi / 10mpg (Dodge truck) = 9.36 gal
9.36 X $3.15 = $29.48 gas
9.75% tax = $16.57
$16.57 + $29.48 = $46.05
$169.95 + $46.05 = $216
Plus 2 hours min on highway
Not bad but no cigar
What a shame

this is why i hate shopping in brick and mortar stores. plus you know... the need to go outside.
you also forgot to take into account car devaluation (your car now has nearly 100 extra miles on it, reducing its value), maintainance (oil change every 3000 miles, tire rotations, and every other component that can fail), etc...
last i checked the estimated value is 0.5$ per mile total. so its 46.8$ milage cost... plus of course your 2 hours of time and tax.
and microcenter does NOT allow returns unless there are exceptional circumstances (eg: you bring it in for a replacement due to DOE and there isn't a replacement in stock).

Need to decide quickly on a good motherboard to go with this.

...perhaps one that's easy to turn into a Hackintosh?

How would the i7 920 fare with a AMD X3 720 if both were clocked at 3.2ghz and both using the same 1600mhz ddr3 ram? Is there a large performance delta?

Not really a good time to be building imo. Cost of I7 setups are expensive still. Prices on memory, as you've noticed, isn't all that great compared to a year ago. Video cards are still way up there due to lack of competition. Personally I can managed on my Q6600@3.4 til prices are lower.
