Curse you MC for making my decision on P55 or X58 that much harder. I was all set to get the i7-860 and save $30 over the 930 (plus MB, memory difference), but now they get $30 closer in price for the whole upgrade.

Well, I was in Denver today and stopped at Microcenter. I wanted to buy a bunch of the i7 930's but the sales associate said the limit was 1 per customer just like the website states. He then spoke to the manager, and the manager said they could only sell me 3 at the most, oh well.

I was talking to the sales associate for awhile, he said the same thing other people have said in this thread, they would not sell a bunch to me because they are not making any money on these processors by selling them for $200 a piece. They make money by getting the people to buy other parts along with the processor.

Kind of gay, if a business is selling a product, customers should be able to buy whatever amount they want no matter what the price is. I have to go back to Denver this Sunday so I'm trying to think of another tactic to use to buy a bunch of the processors, but the only thing I can think of is to keep going into the store buying 1 processor a time from different sales associates until they see what I'm doing and refuse to sell me any more, but I would feel like a total dick doing that. Or maybe get a group of friends to come in there and keep on buying them 1 at a time. I also wonder if you brought a video camera in there and recorded yourself trying to buy a bunch of processors and told them the video is going on your youtube channel which gets millions of views per month, if they would cave in and sell a bunch to you........just ideas.

It's not worth the hassle of selling them on eBay if you can't buy a bunch of them. Your profit margin is only about $20 per processor if you buy them at $215 after tax and sell them for $265-$270. $20 in eBay/PayPal fees and ~ $10 shipping takes a big cut.

I've never sold anything on Craigslist so I don't know if they charge fees or anything, but that would probably be the best way to sell these if you live in a larger city.

I've been checking my Microcenter off and on to see if they get any new 920s and my local store just got one in after being OOS every time I had checked the last few days, so I'm off to MC after work get my new proc... Now all I need is a motherboard and some memory!

yes craigs would be more practical. ebay wouldnt be worth it once you factored in the huge fees and the number of bad transactions.

its pretty funny the sunnyvale mc is located a couple freeway exits from intel.

Well there goes that plan :) I bet they would still let you pick up a couple, after all they are a business and are trying to sell a product, so if a customer wants a few I bet they wouldn't make a fuss about it.

selling them at a loss, they want you to buy the mobo, ram, etc to build out with.

Wow, I just wish the closest one wasn't 2.5 hours away. Anyone on AT willing to grab me a 920? I'd pay for shipping.

Why shouldn't a business be able to NOT sell something to someone if they did not already have a pre-existing agreement?

Nope. For your time driving to the store, wasting gas, Paypal/Ebay fees, packing stuff up and driving to the UPS/FedEx/USPS location, you may as well work a couple hours overtime or find some part time job. Unless... selling on Ebay is your job.

This is why I never spend very much on computer parts... Prices drop too fast most of the time.

Sigh, b/c of tax, I give up on buying anything from B&M. Wanted a new I7 board/ram/cpu. Only had 400 to spend. Tax hikes it too high.

Even if you purchased this processor at the county with the highest known sales tax (which is 10.5%), at $170 you're still looking at much lower than anywhere else. That is under $190 for an i7. Find me a better deal online and I'll buy one right now.

Yes but to know it could have been had for cheaper makes me sad.

can't be had for cheaper if you already know you have tax. Even if you had 25% tax it would be cheaper than anywhere else.
Maybe need to move to a state that has cheaper tax:D

I have about 7.5% tax, even if your tax is 8-10% its only a few xtra bucks over most of us. At less than $200, this is a smokin deal.

As for the guys asking about 920 vs 930. I do not think the 930 is worth $30 more. you might have a slightly cooler cpu, but you probably will not see any difference in performance or oc's

Not worth the difference IMO

Your logic makes no sense. Your only other option is to buy it tax free online for way more than $169.99. Isn't Newegg still charging like $280.00 for these?
