In Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Japan etc... Much like Micron C400,

When there were no Review or preview on Anandtech, Intel 320 and C400 are already selling over at the far east.

320 Performance is about the same......

320 Performance about the same as what? The C400, the Intel 510 or the Intel G2?

These Intel SSDs should be released next week - 28 March.

Basically the same performance as G2.... OR should i call the 320 a G2 Refresh like Intel calls it since it is basically the same G2 controller with 25nm NAND.

Anandtech must sign an NDA which means they are not legally allowed to post their findings until a certain date.
Companies are often run by the mentally deranged who think anyone but them is a fool and incapable of using the internet. And thus that nobody would have access to magical tools like "the internet" and "google translate". As such they are actually imposing NDAs on american reviewers that do not match global marketing.

That being said, historically there are only a few days difference between such occurrences. So if they are already selling in the far east the NDA should be over any day now.

I wanted almost six months for this? I'm am pretty disappointed to be honest. :(

yeah.. if the released it last year when they originally planned, i would have upgraded my G1s by now. after seeing the new SF though, intel may have lost me with the constant delays.

Yeah I already decided to just get the C400. If I would of known about this before, I would of bought the c300 months ago when I saw a good deal on it.

Amazon has the C300 128GB for $229 now, which is what I paid.

Intel don't want my money anymore. That's cool. I'll get the Crucial then.

Didn't we know performance of G3 wasn't going to be great?

In the AT 510 review:
The “G3” we’ve all been waiting for will still come. That’ll be Intel’s first 25nm SSD and it should carry specs similar to what we already published. However the focus of the drive will be the mainstream. To take care of the high end Intel created a new drive: the Intel SSD 510 (codename Elmcrest) and it uses a Marvell 9174 6Gbps controller.

As close to a guarantee it'll be slower than the 510 as you'll find. People who expected the G3 to be faster simply did not look at the information that was out there.

I think the speed differences we see this generation are pretty minimal. The Sandforce 2xxx look to be fastest, but it's a much smaller margin than we've seen on drives in the past. As the technology matures, I expect the next gen improvement to be even smaller. We're getting to the point that (for the average buyer) an SSD is an SSD.

wouldn't be great if nobody would by the G3 forcing Intel to lower their prices?
I am surprised Intel is "ok" with the idea of finishing behind OCZ and the others (which would make sense if the prices were lowered and gain market share that way )

... I guess people buy their (Intel) ssd for reliability & brand name

People who know jack about SSDs won't even know who OCZ is, let alone know which drive is faster. Intel will sell plenty of G3 and 510 drives.

Demand will keep flash prices high for a while. Add in oil prices driving up transportation costs and Japan issue excuses, and I don't expect huge price drops, slow and gradual price erosion is the name of the game. We may even see short term price bumps for components with tsunami related supply constraints if there isn't enough worldwide inventory to absorb any supply issues.

the performance is likely to be about what the x25-e series offers, except with cheaper MLC NAND.

Which is better?

A 250MB/s drive that last years without any maintenance or worry.

A 500MB/s drive that requires constant firmware updates, always runs a chance for bricking (loss of data), RMA process from OCZ?

The answer is different for different people. Intel will sell lots drives, dont worry about that. :)

the problem with this equasion is that OCZ is not the only player in the market. You could also go for a more finished product like the C300 or sandforce 1

That being said, I don't see where people are getting 500MB/s drives. Realistic performance on sequential writing for the sandforce two place it about the 200MB/s range... that being said, testing on the intel G3 show about 90MB/s seq writes compared to the 220 claimed. Also IOPS went DOWN despite claimed increase. And its the exact same old controller, only with inferior NAND.

i understood the performance would be similar... but for stability and OS use (random writes!) it doesn't need to have 2x the speed to still be (already) ridiculously faster than a spinning hdd...

i still have my 40gb x25-v, and it's the best hdd i've ever used, EVER. i'm just wondering if they're going to have 80gb-120gb at that same price :)

It doesn't need to be for the OS... but if intel wants me to pay to upgrade from a G2 they have another thing coming. The G2 is actually superior to the G3... except at cost of manufacturing and those slimes are actually charging a premium for the G3. thank you and goodbye intel.
