Intel fans: Word on Intel's plans for new PIII's

Yup, probably 2001 before we see this chip, and most likely this time next year before it becomes affortable enough to purchase.

i think the last of the 'ghost' processor series will be the p3 1.13GHz 0.18micron.
if intel will die shrink to the 0.13micron just in time with the AMD offers, we most likely see a massive introduction of new p3s between 1GHz - 1.4GHz.

i hope there will be some 100MHz version of these chips.
do you know what i mean? 😀

while AMD has come a long way. They are no where near the resources and abilities of Intel. Besides this competition is great look at the progress they have both made in the last year since the Intro of the Athlon. Intel will most likely be Top dog for a long time yet.

This is not to flame you NOS440, honestly.🙂 Just expressing my opinion, observations.
I'm not sure of the definition of Top Dog but didn't think it included having to play catch-up with the other guy.
And yes, can't argue that Intel has deep resources but recent events seriously bring into question the statement that AMD has nowhere near the abilities of Intel.
I agree that the competition has been great for everyone. Both companies have strengths and weaknesses and each is going to have it's loyal fans.😀

This is not a flame either just my oppinion.
Personally I believe that Intel CPU's may not have the raw power of the T-Bird. They are much higher Quality and run so much more stable and less finicky that AMD still has a long hill to climb. I believe that most of the problem is in the MB chipsets. But also there total lack of support for 3Dnow is another problem.
If they would design a easy for programmers to use compiler they would have a chance.
The T-bird barely etches by in some apps. But in day to day use there is no advantage to a T-Bird.
Also this whole thing going around about locking the multiplier is also a worry. As we all no there is not enough headroom with FSB Ocing with the Athlon to allow it to stretch its wings like the P-3 does so well.
I did the Athlon thing last fall and after the AMD750 chipset flaky performance and then the KX133 mess and then they release the T-Bird and you have to buy a new MB for that. I just feel they are not really on the ball 100%.

My BX6 Rev. 2 I bought over 2 years ago still runs the current P-3s without a hitch. Now thats good engineering !!!!!!! Yea Intel
I know that Intel has made a few mistakes as of late but all and all they still have the best all around system made.

the only thing that bother's me is everybody predicting that intel is going to die... wth? they are still a huge company. THey still sell tons of chips.

They don't sell as many chips to enthusiasts and overclockers(us) as they did before, but we are such a small group of computer users that Intel is not really in danger of dying. In danger of losing market share, big time? Yes. Dying? no.

Mike

Resources.. well finacially you're right AMD is a shrip and Intel a whale compared to eachother.

Abilities... well aparently AMD has abilities that exceed those of mighty Intel so deal with it Intel fanatics! Intel may be big but they're not invincible 🙂

NOS your opinions are as always a bit out of touch with reality 😉

Intel better quality? please define how is a PIII better quality than an Athlon? If I remember correctly it was PIII's that started cracking up not Athlons. Chipset support need to be better for the Athlon, but that is really not AMDs fault, but rather turncoat whore companies like Via that can't deliver on time. As for the AMD750 being flacky... well mine aint, so maybe.. just maybe... it isn't the chipset but rather a PEBKAC problem in many cases.. I'm inclined to believe so 😉

All in all AMD has the better offerings out there, and have had for quite a while.. just takes some time before all the Intel dinosaurs out there realizes that they don't rule anymore 😀

Its always everyone else fault there picking on poor AMD. AMD sh!t doesn't stink. VIA is Intels best friend. Man I've heard it all now !!!!

The chip cracking thing is caused by people using coolers that are not design for the P-3 daaaa. Hardly intels fault.

"...there just better thats all so get over it."

[sarcasm] Your insightful argumentation is overwhelming me [/sarcasm] 😀

Well Intel has allowed Via to get license for making P4 chipsets... just gotta wonder what Via gave Intel back in return?!?

(cutting a bit back on development on a certain EV6 platform?)

"The chip cracking thing is caused by people using coolers that are not design for the P-3 daaaa. Hardly intels fault."

So boxed coolers are not designed for the P3?!? *LMAO*

Maybe they had a problem but I never heard of what your talking about with boxed retail processors only with people using socket 7 cooler without the proper offset. So whatever as if the Irongate with no super bypass wasn't a piece of sh!t so tit for tat dude.

I think we've been through the SuperBypass and APG1X before, and sad to see how you still dwell at the same old tired arguments.

Superbypass not present in the first revisions... the alternative would have been for AMD to hold off on the ready Athlon, till they got this minor feature added. That would IMO have been really bad judgement. I prefer that AMD launced the product and added SBP later. Besides it was partly Vias fault for not delivering the KX133 on time.

AGP1X on GeForce... please do prove to me that it was AMDs fault and not nVidias... besides I can tell you from first hand experience that the lack of AGP2X is barely noticeable due to the fact that the bottleneck isn't the AGP bandwith but rather the GPU itself.

Yea thats why Geforce coupled with a P-3 with agp 4X whipped the pants off the athlon and still does at Q-3 and 3Dmark 2000 and on and on.

Why is that you are picking this fight with me over here anyway's. Do you have some grudge from AMDzone that you can't let go or what ??

NOS

Yeh you just keep on believing that aGP4X gives you a huge preformanceboost... and RDRAM rocks too right? 😀

Anyway I said it some time ago and I'll say it again, I'm sorry to hear that you couldn't get your Athlon to fly. But turning it into an AMD hate campaign is IMO not the best way to deal with it 🙂
