Intel Extreme Graphics 2 Problem

Ok so a friend wants to play mmp's and doesn't wanna pay for a video card. Fine, his board has intel integrated graphics and the game runs fine with this chip until it crashes after about 10 minutes. Seems to me it's overheating, I tried drivers/driver options etc. Is the intel extreme graphics in the northbridge? SHould I just try strapping a bigger hsf on there?

Anyone have anyt experiences with this?

Well TBH he shouldn't have to, the intel graphics run the game fine, if they didn't keep crashing. Besides, he doesn't want anything used either, cheapest graphics at cc/bb is like 60+ for 5 year-old graphics technology too 🙁.

$33 new at Newegg
or ATI for $31
You can probably find 'em even cheaper on pricewatch.

I wouldn't be so sure that the chipset is running everything correctly (it is crashing, after all), and it's certainly *painfully* slow. Do him a favor and make him upgrade. Friends don't let friends run IEG. 🙂

I second that!

Those are probably better than the Intel graphics, but man... I had a Radeon 7000 in my PC at work... wow, that was like... back in the TNT2 days... so slow!! but I guess at least it would be better than the Intel chip (which is hard to believe) I think the MX4000 would be faster, but I could be wrong. $2 more performance! 😛

In the TNT2 days a TNT2 was considered fast.

Gotta be a dumb@#$ to get a Geforce 2/4 MX for $25-30 when you can get a Geforce 3 TI for like $30 on the for sale/trade forums which is wayyy more powerful and in another league....

If he has an open AGP slot, get this $43
If he only has the PCI option, get this $52

ANYTHING is better, Intel "EXTREME!!!" graphics are really lackluster, and I don't even know what games he plays, but if they're remotely 3D, he's prolly not playing them well, thats my .02

Intel extreme graphics uses system memory I have a feeling that your freind prob has 128 meg of ram.

Even with 256 meg that system is NOT a gaming box.

sixth

It will play solitaire though

Intel Extreme Graphics 2 Problem

I can't run games with this pos

[This is a known issue and does not affect just your system. The only known workaround is to buy a new video card that is intended for games]

-Taken off a BS site that doesn't exist (OK so I made it up... you get the message 😉).

Intel's Extreme(ly horrible) Graphics 1 + 2 are not for gaming; they are integrated solutions that are just enough to 'get by' running basic windows tasks.

If you want to run anything that is fullscreen, get even the cheapest GeForce 2 or 4 MX, or an even better solution, one of those two ATI's recommended by SneakyStuff, which are both quite nice at 2d and 'ok' for games that are several generations old 😉 .

It shouldnt overheat like that. Putting a cooler on it may not solve your problem. I'm guessing that it wont because i dont see how it would just keep overheating unless its a pos and its not heat or something other then heat is causing it to crash. I would just do what everyone else is saying and get another card. It will cost u $30 and u have a guaranteed fix.
