Intel EOLs over 25 processors

To make room for the upcoming launch of 22nm Ivy Bridge processors in April 2012, Intel has notified its hardware partners of its schedule for stopping the supply or production of over 25 existing desktop CPU models, according to industry sources in Taiwan.
Intel has issued a notice to suspend the supply of Core i5-661/660, Core i3-530, Pentium E5700 and Celeron E3500 and will cease the production of those models in the second quarter of 2012, the sources indicated.
Intel is also set to crease production of Core i7-960/950/930/870, Core i5-2300/680/670, and Pentium G960 in the second quarter of 2012, added the sources.
Intel will also terminate the production of Core i7-875K/860S, Core i5-760/750S/655K and Celeron 450/430 in the first quarter, as well as Core i7-880S/870S, Core Duo E7500/E7600, Pentium E6600/E550 and Celeron E3300 in the second quarter, revealed the sources.

As a general rule the lifespan of a desktop processor/board is 1 year and on the server end it is 2 years. We try to keep some desktop processors and boards alive in our extended life cycle products. These Extended life cycle products are mostly business designed products and they push the life span to 2 years. You can find a list of the boards http://www3.intel.com/cd/channel/reseller/asmo-na/eng/101286.htm

We are just now nearing eol for the celeron 450/430, yet this celeron product family has been around for going on 5 years now. I think it started with the celeron 420. I'm not sure if the 430 is a launch product, but either way it is just a 5 year old 420 that was binned higher.

They're still being made?

The reason is that Intel skipped the ultra low end for socket 1156 (no Clarkdale Celerons), thus had to keep socket 775 around much longer than was usual.

Post your source, Tweakboy.

He's gone from creating threads that only had a link with no other text, to creating threads with just the text and no link. (There's a Spaceballs joke somewhere in there)

Is that officially the last of the 775 chips? Seems like it. Newegg sold through all of their 775 quads, and just a few dual-cores left.

775 has had a nice long life. I'm still rocking a Q9300, toying with the idea of a 1155 upgrade.
