Intel Engineering Sample wont POST with Intel D845GEBV2

Intel Engineering Sample wont POST with Intel D845GEBV2. Is the CPU dead or Intel Motherboards don't with ES CPUs?

So you finaly got your hands on a ES and want to brag about it ? J/k ... Not a clue, but errr, what CPU we talking abt? It being ES shouldn't matter at all.

Whats the CPU?

Couple of things need to be right

1. The chipset on the mobo has to support chips core family
2. The mobo bios has to support the chip

You can try updating to the latest bios and see if that works, but I'm guessing the chipset maybe the problem as the model number you gave infers that its the older 845 chipset

I normally would not say any thing, but it doesn't post.

The CPU reads as is in order:

  • Intel Confidential
    Q89D ES MLAY
    i?© '01 80546GE0721M
    L406A407

I had that suspicion. It could be Prescott. I supose I will need an 875 based motherboard. :frown:

Intel 80546GE0721M Q89D (2.80) P4 ES 133MHz Prescott

It's a 533mhz FSB 2.8ghz prescott with no hyperthreading.. I wouldn't spend too much on a motherboard for that thing 😉

Well, the specs sure are better than my 2.4GHz 400MHz FSB Northwood.

3.06 looks tempting. I am almost certain a CPU with an 800MHz FSB will underclock it's self when put in a slower motherboard. At least that was the case with Tualatin SL657 and previous generation CPUs.

dude, there really isn't anything to brag about engineering samples. They have earlier steppings, and even if you score on one with a unlocked multiplier OCing isn't actually as great as later revision chips. Trust me, I would know.

Well, they are great in the sense that Intel gives them away for free to certain press, engineering firms, manufacturers, and retail organizations.

Does anyone wish to buy an ES CPU for $30?

Yeah, I'll take all of the LGA 775 Penryn ES's you have. Of course, I'm a nice guy, so I'll offer $40 each.

I was under the impression a lot of ES cpu's were handbinned and will often overclock further and easier then non ES cpu's.

A majority of them are not like that. They are engineering samples, because they are still in the testing phase, and not ready for production. Of course they are going to give their best ones to the reviewers, that only makes sense.
