Intel E8400 $159 with free ECS motherboard

dang it. I just bought the Gigabyte mobo from ZZF last week and I'm waiting to get the E8400 when the price drops this quarter. Maybe I should just buy the E8400 and ECS combo and sell the ECS mobo.

now that i look at in the other deal is using this mobo http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16813128337 which is only $50 more then the cheap mobo, so the combo deal should only be $210 not $250, so the cheaper one is def the better deal.

I agree with you on the pricing, but who the hell is gonna buy that crappy ecs mobo? I am for sure running to fry's on my lunch break.

I really, REALLY, need to upgrade my Athlon XP 2500+, and was considering the E7200 with the Gigabyte P35 DS3L mobo. But there is a Fry's somewhat close to me (~30miles) and the E8400 combo is tempting. But is this combo really that hot of a deal?

I'm trying to decide between getting this combo (plus a case, PSU, video card) from Fry's, or if I'm just better off getting the E7200 and everything else from Newegg and avoid the 60mile roundtrip drive.

yes, you do need to update that puter

That's it, I'm moving to a place that has a Fry's nearby. BB / CC can suck it.

Anyone wanna go buy that E8400 and trade it to me for my E7200 + cash? 😛

Hrmm, just might step by fry's today after work and start on computer number 7 for myself until I sell off a previous one 🙂 also, there is an 8GB thumb drive for instore there for $17 as well right now 🙂

Excellent Deal, I have a Fry's 20 miles from my house, and Karaktu is always looking for ECS motherboards in the FS/T forum.

all the combo's from fry's i bought has been retail. I'm sure this is retail also, but beware, make sure you get a non opened box..

The E8400 included with this combo is the tray version. I've never seen a boxed version of the E8400 at Fry's.

Gotta watch out for those OEM CPUs at Fry's. They recently tried to pass off two used CPUs on me before finally giving me a new one. They used the excuse about how they were "just tested by Fry's to make sure it was working OK."

You know, I got this combo and been having stability issues with my E8400 on my eVGA 680i board. I'm going to go exchange for another one.

It's more than likely your board. If you're overclocking, it's possibly the chip with temps or voltage requirements. Hope the replacement fares a bit better.

I don't see anything wrong with the bundled ECS mobo other than being not OC friendly and sporting only two ram slots. Integrated video allows you to save couple extra dollars for cheap builds. Of course then, this begs a qustion: who in the right minds would buy a E8400 for a cheapie machine. That aside, ECS mobos are fine.

I just got the same mobo with a e7200 @ 119 last week. Would it really be worth breaking down the build, taking it all back, and getting the e8400? I'll be replacing the MB soon, and I've heard the e7200's have a better OC multiplier.
