Under $420, which processor is a better pick??? For gaming with GeForce 8800GTS SLi cards and 3GB RAM.

Had Reserator 1 Plus, bought Reserator 2 and EK water blocks for GeForce 8800 SLI cards on A8N-SLI Deluxe and AMD Opetron 175. When turned on, fire blasted from one video card. Went out, got my card replaced (under extended warranty) just incase replaced PowerSupply with BFG 1000w PSU and motherboard with again A8N-SLI Deluxe. Now, system turns on but freezes over Windows XP Setup, sometimes doesn't turn on, somtimes it does then freezes or long beep on start. Now in the whole process, FluidXP+ Extreme leaked over the system, while system off though. Also noticed that the replacement board has BIOS version 1205 while ASUS never came out with this BIOS version for this board. Latest is 1016. Tried to flash BIOS but freezes while flashing; "Please wait!!!". Seems like no choice but to upgrade. Now I'm way off the processor performance knowledge. Should I got with Intel or AMD. (Toughest question) Comparing Opetron 170, I would need definately better than what I have right now OR any suggestion without replacing board, how to fix thi system. Please help. I'm extremely frustrated because of all this run around.

Considering that the FX-72 requires a $300 motherboard and dual-CPUs to be at its best, I'd suggest going for the E6600. The E6600 will have significantly-lower power consumption and will even be slightly faster. Do you already have DDR2 RAM? Both of these CPUs will require that.

Intel E6600 without a doubt. It will be cheaper to get it set up and with OCing (if you plan to), will be a lot faster.

im sorry but this is a no brainer question.

The E6600 will pwn my Opty any day of the week with blindfolds.
My Opty will be close to the FX-72, because our arch isnt very much different.

So NO, dont bother even looking at AMD until barcelona comes out. If you cant wait til then, then get the E6600.

And for those of you that dont believe my Opty will match close to a FX-72

Heres Proof to those that call shins

no question that opty will get to FX-72, even with 165 can OC to 3ghz, while E6600 get 3.6 to 4 ghz with price tag of $300

Unless you want the novelty of an FX processor, E6600 smacks the FX hard in every other way.

except the IHS, the FX/Opty cpu have very solid and super flat surface IHS. while intel cpu's needs lapping to get perfectly flat.

You make it sound like the differences are large. Not that I'd buy an FX-62 for any reason, even over an E6600 (since I'm an overclocker), but your statement is FUD, dude.

save some money and use the parts that still work and get your self a DFI expert to keep you content which is still be sold on the egg, then when barcelona comes out you can have two choices to choose from and hopefully better prices. aint competition grand! here is the link:

this is one bad board, give it a shot and be patient, hopefully barcelona is worth the wait and if not then maybe the intel chips might be a little cheaper.

And also, forgot to tell the people reading this thread that the DFI EXPERT requires you to be a expert in timings and cpu control otherwise the board is a SERIOUS PITA.

ALL OCZ ram will not work in dual channel mode until you changed the voltage, and even then each OCZ ram requires fine tuning timings which took me over 2 weeks to perfect.

But to stop me from being offtopic. NO NO NO get the E6600 if you need to select between the two.

That report means a stock E6600 will spank a FX-62. Okey fine.... But what that result failed to mention is that most E6600 will OC to 3.2GHZ + with slight voltage.

2.4ghz -> 3.2ghz+ your in a different world there bud.

ALSO OP. I guess when i was answering your post i didnt read carefully your statement.

1. You did a BIG NO NO NO NO in h2o cooling. Read on galvanic corrosion. Since you mixed copper blocks with a passive style radiator, IE Zalman. on top of that you used FLuid XP+ <--- the absolute WORST coolant you can get. I would carefully inspect your reserator. You might have a hole.

Now your errors no one can diagnose, the reserator was known for its pump failures, have you thought that your CPU might be overheating? That could also explain your GPU Going out if your pump died.

I'd pull the reserator out and inspect it. Also zalman CLEARLY STATES only use there coolant. They nuke there coolant with a water wetter, something fluid xp doesnt. And that usually saves you from galvanic corrosion.

You should read my sticky on watercooling, because you just did 3 things i warn people not to do :T
