Intel DX79SI: Support 4 & 6 core SB-E? Any guesses at cost?

I'll definitely buy it no matter when but I sure would love to have it before the Holidays so that I could have a good two weeks off work doing nothing but playing with it. I don't don't don't want to start a flame war with anyone as it seems that there are people out there who are as adamant about BD vs. SB as there are about Israel vs. Palestine but I've heard everything between "BD is an SB-E killer" to "BD is barely an i5". Without reputable independent testing of actual silicon, how can anyone know where on this very broad scale the actual performance of BD will be?

Now, to get back on topic, has anyone seen a pic of the DX79SI?

I have not seen a pic yet but will post one as soon as i find it.

I agree that BD performance hass been rumored to be all over the map. My personal opinion is that the top 8 core/modual/whatever SKU will keep up with current SB 1155 chips in heavily threaded apps, and lose in single threaded performance. And SB-E will beat BD all around.

Definitely see what you're saying, and that slide is very interesting, but that means that Xbit got it wrong?

I agree that earlier would be better for xmas sales, thats a no brainer.

However you also have to consider that they will have no competetion from AMD(unless bulldozer is alot better than the leaked info we have so far). So they(intel) are in no hurry and people wanting that level of performance will still buy it whenever it is actually released cause there are no other options.

I didn't hear anything about Ivy Bridge ?

nice rig man, 🙂

There has been like zero news about IB in weeks. It's coming... sometime in spring 2012. Just between you and me and the lamppost, I don't know if I'd be too excited about being an early adopter of TriGate. I keep seeing visions of Cougar Points, so I think it might be best to let a couple of quarters go by before pulling out the credit card... so that would make it year end 2012. I'll be celebrating my SB-E's first birthday by then! 🙂

yeah the decision to go SB-E or wait till IB will be a tough one. Im sure my i7 930@4.2 will get me to IB if i want it to. The dealbreaker for me would be if SB-E is locked for overclocking. Everybody was saying SB-E will be unlocked Bclock like 1366 was but lately i have been hearing rumors it will indeed be locked, if thats the case i will wait for IB. Because the SB-E "k" or whatever the unlocked ones will be called will be $600+ i think and im not dropping that much cash on a CPU.

I'm in the same boat with an i7 940. I don't OC but if between now and SB-E launch some amazing news comes out about IB and TriGate, I'll try to wait... but I'll wait a lot longer than release day as I really want to see what happens with that tech. I'm very concerned that another insect will find its way out of the Cougar and into IB!
