Hi guys. I have a new dell 9150 with the intel D 2.80ghz's

i was having some issued where one of the cores just goes to 100% for some reason I cant pinpoint. Sometimes pictures in my pictures folders do it. Sometimes its mp3s sometimes its videos in media player.

I saw this "patch" on this website
http://ucguides.savagehelp.com/Quake4/FAQ_DualCore.htm#INTEL

Intel Dual Core Patch
This addresses timing issues with many applications and will help stop crashes and address stuttering / frame rate issues in games.

1. Right click on My Computer, and select Properties.

2. Select the Advanced tab, and click Settings under Startup and Recovery.

3. Click Edit under System Startup and open Notepad.
Add /usepmtimer to the end of the [operating systems] section. For example

[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect /usepmtimer
4. Save the BOOT.INI file and close Notepad.

5. Reboot your system

Its been a few hours and my Pc seems cured. Im not sure what the hell "usepmtimer" does but it seems to work for now.

just thought I would share

Is your processor a true dual-core Intel or just an Intel using HT? Is your OS using 32 or 64 bit windows?

That switch you are referring to - I've seen it solve other issues - I wouldn't necessarily call it a "dual-core patch". Seems more related to 64bit windows and HyperThreading.
