I just bought (not built) a new PC. I asked for DDR2 800 MHz RAM because I believed that the motherboard supports it. But when I checked the BIOS I find that it's running at 667MHz. Can I just set it to 800? If it refuses to boot, will I have to mess with a jumper? If this is too complicated for me (no laughjing please) then I'll have to get the builder to change it. I don't want a PC that won't boot! Any help is much appreciated.

may be updating your bios might help . i was using 400 mhz RAM and it used to show up as 333 mhz in bios and when i updated bios then it started to show up as 400 mhz

since you bought it already built... are you sure that they installed 800MHz ram in it.

you can set the frequency within the bios also

you can use bios recover jumper to return to default bios settings

it is the only jumper right behind the ide connector, my jumper is yellow

okay. assuming you are at stock speed. 11/10/9/8/7x and FSB 266 then...

make sure ref freq is set to 266.

then make sure mem frequency is set to 800.

this will set your memory at ddr2-800.

also increase your mem voltage to 2.0 or 2.04 just to make sure.

if it fails, then you have to move the jumper on the board from regular to maintenance mode and correct your changes.

if you need to know which jumper to move, then look in the manual or else.. look at your mobo, to the right of the far right memory slot close to the IDE port you'll see a jumper that's yellow. just move it from its default position to the next position and that'll allow you to boot in maintenance mode

Bumping an old thread, but thanks for the info, it might have helped me with a similar problem with the system I built. I have a similar problem with my Buffalo Firestix FSX1000D2C-K1G, I can't get mine to post higher than 667.

Are you overclocking? Remember the memory frequency will go up with FSB. You may also have to do things in a incremental manners. Bad Axe 2 doesn't seem to like a sudden change in the BIOS.
