I need to assemble a good, stable system to use at work. (w2k)
I do some graphics work and tend to use a lot of Adobe products. (Illustrator, Photoshop)

I have put together several Athlon systems in the past, but am leaning towards an Intel P4 system with this time around.

From what I have read, the Asus P4T-E (i850) seems to be a good choice for a mobo although kind of pricey.

The Intel D850mv I would think should be another choice. However, I have been unable to find any reviews or comments on this board.

Anyone have any insight on this?

 
Well, I have one (D850MVL)... it's a nice enough board, if you ask me... but you will find few people around here using it due to the lack of overclocking options.
 
ASUS P4TE or Intel D850MVL would be my choice - I have one of each here, get the ASUS for overclocking, or the Intel with onboard lan to save you a PCI slot and for the ultimate in stability...

(Of course, I have no stability problems with my ASUS either)
 
Either board would work great, IMO....I'd get the board that supported Northwood processors, for upgradability sake.
I know ASUS has BIOS update that supports Northwood, just not sure on the INTEL.
 
Intel's site says that the 2.0/2.2GHz P4s with 512K cache (aka Northwoods) are supported on the D850MV with BIOS P05 or later...

That does lead me to ask a silly question, though: my D850MVL came with BIOS P04. If I had wanted to stick a Northwood on there (I have a Willamette (sp?) 1.9GHz), would it have worked enough to let me flash the BIOS to P05?
 
I have a D850MVL - good board with one annoying design "feature": the "CD in" plug on the mobo sits right underneath the AGP card's video out connector (on the bracket), forcing you to jimmy the card a bit to seat it properly. And once the CD cable is plugged into the connector, if you need to disconnect it you have to remove the video card... the circuit board was probably drawn up by some idjet who never built a rig :disgust:
 
Either that, or they assumed that people would do like me and disable built-in audio...

That's one thing that bugs me about the D850MV/MVL (but that seems to be shared by many many boards, including overclocker-friendly designed-for-hardware-enthusiasts AMD boards): why do they include that pointless onboard audio? I have no problem whatsoever with onboard LAN which is actually USEFUL (saves a PCI slot!), but why onboard audio? You'd have to pry my Audigy out of my cold dead hands... and meanwhile I have this silly sound subsystem on my motherboard that I'll never use.
