Is this a one off or has anyone else also achieved similar results on air?

4.2Ghz Pentium D 805 Dual Core 2MB Cache HUGE OVERCLOCK
This CPU has a stock speed of 2.66Ghz (2666mhz) :thumbsup:but overclocks to a HUGE 4.2Ghz.

It's a Pentium D 805 Dual Core processer, with the core running at (stock) 2.66ghz, or 1.33ghz on each core. When overclocked, each core is running at 2.1ghz, giving a total processing power of 4.2Ghz!

The main reason I've listed this item as NEW is that for the simple fact, I only bought it to see how well these chips overclock (And boy does it!). Afterwards it was cleaned and put back in it's retail package. So at most, it's been used for around 4 days. And even then, most of that time it was running Prime95. (A torture test which tests the CPU for faults when overclocked - it found none)

I'm sure you want to see the proof of this monumental overclock, so I'll get on with the screenshots! If you have any questions, please ASK! I will answer most questions within a few hours.

Q: Hi what temp was the cpu at idle and under load please ?
15-May-06
A: Mid 50's when I was running Prime95. But I have 4x120mm fans and 2x92mm fans in my case as well, airflow is important. (case was a Thermaltake Armor)

Q: Please tell me what motherboard you used. Also did you use the stock cooler? Thanks.
14-May-06
A: I used the Asus P5WDG2-WS Extreme motherboard, and I used another heatsink and fan to get the highest overclock, but the stock heatsink got me well passed 3.4Ghz before I had to change it to get a better overclock.

Q: what is the product code for the chip u are using. and what voltage did u have to supply to the core to keep it stable and what was the avg temp underload at 4.2 Ghz
13-May-06
A: Product code I won't give out until payment has been made as it's used in part of the RMA (returning faulty goods) process. The voltage I used can be seen in the images I've put in the sale. If you need any further information, please don't be afraid to ask.

Q: What cooling and motherboard did you use to get 4.2ghz?
13-May-06
A: I used something called a Zalman (CNPS9500-LE) Cross Platform Cooling Fan, and the motherboard I used was the Asus P5WDG2-WS Extreme.

Yeah, you need at least 300 posts before you're allowed to read the FAQ and posting rules ;)

(The FS/FT forum is there for a reason, good luck with the auction) :)

oh, i thought this was a real thread... anyway, if you are selling something, you have to go the the For Sale/For Trade forum.

Man the link is so that people can have a look at the SCREENSHOTS and examine if it?s genuine!

The item is not mine and if you were a bit more meticulous in your viewing you wound have picked up that the auction has ended on the 17 May.

Aha!

Doubt it, the THG writeup got close to that in clocks, but the temps were far, far higher.

If you were a little more meticulous in your searching, you'd have found that 805D overclocking has been beaten to death around here, and maybe even have stumbled into the CPU/Processing forum. :p

BTW, AXP @ 6GHz

His feedback sucks. Less than 30 transactions and has 2 negatives, and one negative withdrawn. I'd avoid that seller like a plague.

I have read some of that stuff where a lot of members say it can and can?t do this or that and needs water etc. I'm just seeking the opinion from members as to who has achieved this much overclock on air or seen elsewhere similar results to 4.2 GHz on air as this guy claims. Can you grasp that?

"When overclocked, each core is running at 2.1ghz, giving a total processing power of 4.2Ghz!"

The guy is obviously clueless, if you want to believe he got it to 4.2ghz on air, feel free.

 Wait, isn't that slower than stock?

I did not say that I believed he achieved it on air! That?s why I put it to this Forum to get other's points of view backed up by facts. I was hopping for a more technical explanation as to why it?s impossible to do it on air with a Zalman (CNPS9500-LE) Cross Platform Cooling Fan and 4x120mm fans and 2x92mm fans, rather than a one-dimensional (The guy is obviously clueless, if you want to believe he got it to 4.2ghz on air, feel free) answer from such a senior member.

Sorry, the comment wasn't really directed at anyone. There has just been an over abundance of 805 threads lately.

I wouldn't call it impossible to hit 4.2ghz on air, but I can almost gurantee you will be throttling. I hit 57c on water at 3.7ghz, claiming 50c on air at 4.2ghz is hard to believe, even with his over abundance of fans, and he kept ignoring the questions about voltages, and said look at the screen shots. It's pretty common for that software to report incorrect voltages and he was unwilling to say what voltage he used. He also said it was running prime95, but most likely was only running a single instance, which neither fully uses the CPU, nor does it allow for max temperatures to be reached.

Maaybe he did briefly......before his system shut down..
