Intel CPU Temp

Hi,

I have a Gigabyte GA-8KNXP (v2) motherboard with a Intel 3.0GHz P4c CPU. The heatsink I have for the CPU is the Thermalright SP-94. I've tried a couple of fans on the SP-94, the first was the Vantec TD9238H Tornado 92mm fan. This kept the CPU cool, about 46 degrees, but was too noisy, so I tried a quieter one. The next one was the Vantec SF8025L Stealth 80mm fan, very quiet but the CPU temperature went up to 56 degrees. Is this too hot for this CPU and is there another fan I could try that is quiet and keeps the temperature lower than 56 degrees.
Is the Asus StarIce any good or is that noisy as well?

Hope someone can help.

Thanks
Best regards
Scott

The temp is fine. People worry too much about temps, I have never heard of any silencer's CPU failling because they idle around 60C. I don't think that low temps below 50C have any impact on the CPU lifetime. Notebook CPUs are much hotter and almost never die either.

Up to 60C is perfectly fine. My 3.2C @ 3.6 with a Zalman CNPS7000A AlCu at about half fan speed is at 55C load (35C case temp). Your temps are a bit high but nothing alarming. As long as your system is stable it should be fine. If anything try to find a 92mm Stealth, Panaflo, or Papst fan. All should be quiet and will push more air than an 80mm at equal noise levels.

I also have 4 more fans in the case; it's a Zorro case, which has one on the side panel and one at the back of the case. The other 2 fanes are YS-TECH FD128025 SILENT 80mm fan.
So this should be enough cooling for the case, surely?

I'm not overclocking or anything like that, it's just that I think 56 degrees is a little high for a CPU that's not doing much.

What about the Asus StarIce cooler that looks like a jet engine, has anyone experienced this, will it fit on my motherboard (Gigabyte GA-8KNXP (v2))?

Also is there a tool that can measure the temperature in Windows, as the only way I can get the temperature is to restart the system, go into the Bios and view it there.

Best regards,
Scott

Thanks, I will try Motherboard Monitor.

I've just got a reply back from Asus about the StarIce, apparently the noise from the StarIce ranges from 19.5 to 45dBA depending on fan speed.
But I would still like to hear from someone that has tried the Asus StarIce cooler.

Thanks

Thanks for everyone's help on this; I've seemed to have fixed the problem.

I installed MBM5 and the case temperature was about 35 degrees and the CPU temperature was about 56 degrees. The case has two 80mm at the front blowing air into the case, one side fan sucking air out of the case and one fan at the rear of the case sucking air out.
What seemed weird to me is that the fan on the side of the case was sucking air out, which meant that air was going in from the front and then getting sucked out from the side, before it's even got to the CPU.
So I turned the fan around so it would suck air into the case and all the air would pass over the CPU and be sucked out at the rear of the case.
This then kept the case temperature at a reasonable 26 degrees and the CPU temperature at 43 degrees.

Thanks again for everyone?s help.

Best regards
Scott
