Not everyone has to have a high Res monitor, I used a 32inch 720p HDTV for mine. It allowed me to use cheaper video cards lol

A cheaper 1080p monitor would do the same, which is what most people have. The low end Vizio LED TV you get for around $150 are good for that. You can also use the speakers for your audio, especially if the TV has a built in head phone amp.

can't really use the gaming benches. Who plays at that low resolution it was benched on

You can when you are comparing which CPU to buy. It takes the GPU out of the equation. Then, when you are choosing GPUs, you benchmark them on the fastest possible CPU available to take the CPU out of the equation. It's a pretty straightforward methodology.
