I still have a P4 so I'm looking for a i7 but I'll wait until Jan or Feb for the next batch. I'm in no need to rush, though TF2 is hurting my current rig but not enough to blow $800 on a barebone.

LOL @ people complaining that there is more product on the market.

If you are an average user (web, internet, most gaming) then it is still a good idea to go C2D, C2Q. These chips are beasts, but you dont need them to play solitaire.

Since Intel started doing it's Tick/Tock release, I've found that the Tock side yields better value/performance. Example would be the price of DDR2 memory with most motherboard makers were rock-bottom when Penryn came out as will DDR3 when Westmere (32nm) comes out. However, the rule for cheap memory may not apply if DDR4 (or whatever comes after DDR3) comes out and Intel jumps on that ship.

imo if you're an average user you don't even need a C2Q - less than a handfull of games support 4 cores.

Nehalem would be complete overkill for an average user.
