That depends on the board you're using. XMP Profile runs @ 1866
The 4790 is rated to 1600 at stock, but can run up to 3000 & higher.

Great thanks burpo. I'm thinking of buying a 4790. The price is great at $300 shipped. Only one available though. Only need to figure if the deal is legit. Even Newegg is selling it more expensive.

It was $250 today at Amazon. You should assume this was someone who bought it and is reselling at a profit.

But yes, as long as your motherboard supports RAM overclocking, the 4790 can go higher than 1600.

You may want to consider getting a Z97-based board. One of those will run that memory at the full 1866MHz.

That's one of the least publicized features of the Z87/97 chipsets. It allows higher then stock memory frequencies on all LGA-1150 CPUs...

The 4790 deal I was getting for $300 shipped to Mauritius is no more :(. Someone snapped it. Back to the drawing board to get another deal or value for money purchase. NOBODY is even offering close to that at the moment. It's at $350 and above. Back to the drawing board for the 2nd time :) I was also considering a FX 8350 combo (with board +RAM) from ebay but the savings I would make is only $100. The 4790 setup would HAVE cost me about $650 (CPU, RAM ebay + local motherboard) while the AMD setup would cost me about $550 shipped (mind you that this includes shipping to Mauritius about $50-60.
