I'm tempted by this deal fir a htpc rig. Got an offer for a gigabyte h55 mobo with a i3 540 that overclocks to 3.8 stock voltage. Will this mc sb deal be a faster machine? I know you can't overclock lower end sb

No, won't be faster, but will draw a little less power. The H55 boards probably have more SATA ports though (usually 6, or 5+eSATA). This MSI H61 board only has 4xSATA.

Yeah for only $119. Paid that much for just an e8500 and a Q9300 not that long ago.

I had my X48 die on me the other day and having checked the bench this seems awfully tempting. Is it really going to feel as fast as my quad or do the numbers just make it look that way?

For a $20 motherboard I'm not complaining. Heck, even at the original price of $60 I wouldn't complain. The H61 chipsets don't go on higher end motherboards.

If the combo is still on sale and in-stock, yes. People were placing the order online just to make sure they didn't show up to find out it was out of stock.

I'm really pissed off. I've had two dead mobos from this deal and I'm tired of running back to MC.

After the second one, I would be concerned about something else causing the issue. Have you tried other parts? For instance I've had some RAM recently that would not work with a P67 board. I've also heard of instances in the past where a particular motherboard/PSU combo wouldn't work together.

haha @ sent from pc using keyboard.. anyone pick one these up for me for 15$ for gas money? =P i saw a e5200/ p45 combo in the fs threads for 85 and was tempted but then thought hey for 120$ i can get this and pay someone some money to get it for me.. im like 200 miles from nearest one and always busy with other stuff when i go to that area.

Anyways, gotta pass on your offer because $15 won't even begin to cover my costs in going to Micro Center - not with gas being close to $4.50/gal here for a 130 mile-ish round trip, plus tolls. And no, my car doesn't get 40MPG+. 😛
