Did anyone get one of these? Columbus Ohio is still showing the mobo as no longer available.

For the same price you can also get a quad-core Phenom™ II X4 840 + Asus mobo:

Not a bad match-up.
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/88?vs=289
Both the Phenom II X4 840 and 955 run at 3.2GHz

Oops! It seems the 840 has zero L3 cache. WTF? Doesn't that make it an Athlon II X4?

EDIT:
HERE'S THE CORRECT MATCH-UP:

Here's a link to overclockersclub.com comparing the 840 to the 975.

My gf got me one and her friend got another so I have two being shipped to me.

Here's the inside story at least about the St. Louis Park, MN location.

I phoned MC every day for several days after the sale began and they always gave me the run around. They claimed to not have any of the msi boards and said they could offer me a $60 discount on any of three select Gigabyte motherboards, each with either the H67 or P67 chipset starting at about $129.99 and up. They also said they would honor the deal past the original cut-off date through April 1st due to only having 5 of the msi motherboards when the deal first began.
I checked the egg rating of those mobo's with Newegg and wasn't impressed with those models. Besides, I was looking for a cheap mobo to match with what I think of as the entry level Sandy Bridge, not to add another $70+ into the deal.

They kept telling me they may be getting some of the msi boards on a FedEx truck or on one of their trucks coming in on the first Wednesday after the start date.

My gf drove in to see what was what and surprise they had a lot of the msi boards. They admitted that they had told phone callers they didn't have any in order to have them for those who actually visited the store. They didn't say that they lied, just that they "weren't advertising" that they had them in stock.

There you have it-- proof positive that MC employees by direction of management lie to their customers.

Enjoy.

You broke the #1 rule of hot deals: Never call.

That is only a rule on something that may be a price mistake or on something that is very limited stock that the employees might decide to purchase for themselves. In this case it was an advertisement sent to everyone, which was not a price mistake.

The whole fiasco was that people ordered online and so the stores were sold out before they even opened. I admit, I was one of the few to order online one of the initial 10 or so my store had. Of course if I never ordered, someone else would have lol.

I stopped going to my local MC because they never have the deals I want in stock. If they want to start pandering to internet orders, more power to them.

Yes, AMD has taken to rebranding the Propus core into a Phenom II. Used to be that Phenom II 8XX series had cut down 4MB cache. Not anymore. Thanks, AMD.
Now I don't feel guilty for recently buying Intel.

Well it looks like they are changing it cause after they sold out on the first day there have been reports from other forums that if you call they'll tell you its not in stock or you have to come in the store to find out. I believe one guy had sent his gf down there and there was a bunch of mobos in stock. So I think they are going to force people to go to the store now when they have "instore only" deals.

I don't mind them doing that and stating it; I just don't like them lying about their status.
However...................
Certainly, if I did decide to go to the store for one of those alternative offers, I would have discovered, and possibly from a salesperson (politically correct for salesman as if anyone has ever seen a female salesperson at MC) that the original offer was available.

Ok, so maybe I jumped the gun, but at least now I know the rules of the game.

I am downright annoyed with MC. Them having an online website is almost false advertising. Everything I look at that I'm remotely interested in is "in store only". Sorry..I don't have one within 4 hours of me.

Every time I read a post like this I wonder if I should offer to help out. Only problem is I think they take your personal information and limit you to just one purchase on those real good deals. Still, it could get old fast killing a couple hours to save someone a few bucks. Then there's the suspicion you might have that I may rip you off.
Nope. As much as I like to help people I don't think I can afford the time and gas to help someone who probably can afford it more than me.
Sorry.

Is 3 out of 4 ok?
