Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9770 Review

Oh my. What will Intel do next to destroy AMD. Stock at 3.2GHz and overclocked up to 4.51GHz. AMD better do something quick before they go bankrupt because of Intel's crazy clock speeds.

I think Intel's trying to reach the 10GHz speeds that they advertised with the Pentium 4.

Note: It was only stable at 4.4 ghz, and that was with some incredible water-cooling.....

At $1200, I can buy 2 or 3 entire Q6600 systems @ 3.4, so not worth it....

A guy at XS awhile back was able to run his ES QX9650 @ 4.3 or 4.4 Ghz on air, and had it running ~5.5 Ghz with better cooling. Don't you guys remember the thread about it here?

Meh, not really interested in a $1000 part, give me a Penryn version of the Q66 and maybe yes. However that is an impressive showing nonetheless, bodes well for Intel's 45nm era.

Yes. This is just like the days when K6-2 could barely squeek to 500MHz but P3 (or P!!! as some called it) was cruising at 600MHz with room to overclock.

Because Intel's mfg process was so good, but competion was lackluster, the Intel chips had huge overclocking headroom in them. I loved my Celeron 300A's, overclocked to 450MHz.

It wasn't until K7 launched at speeds up to 650MHz that Intel started struggling to match the MHz.

AMD needed today to be like K7 launch was to their K6-2 product line. Only it wasn't.

Now we all lose, except the people who don't mind overclocking!
