Intel Core 2 Duo X6800 $969 + ship @ TG

Cheapest I could find other than this was ZZF for $998. So, you're saving about $25 or so. Not that I'd recommend spending this much money for a processor, but for those who are looking for one, this seems to be the lowest price around.

Here

It may be a good price but does anyone actually buy these $1k processors?

I really doubt AMD or Intel sells many Extreme Edition or FX processors. I know I sure would not buy one when you can get 95% of the performance for half the price.

You'd be surprised.

Granted, less buy these than the cheaper chips, but they still sell very well 😉 I'm just running this promo to blow out the last 3 I have - but I've sold ~15 of them since they were released. So yes, they do sell 🙂

talk about having $$$ and getting the best of the best. :Q :Q :Q

Hmm.. I might have to wait for the Core 2 Quadro procs due out hopefully next month. They'll still cost about $1K but two more cores will be sweet. 😛

You'd be surprised...

Keep in mind a lot of X6800 are doing 3.7+, on air. You aren't going to do that with the other chips (mostly) and the freedom of unlocked multipliers and the high stock speed is worth the extra cash to some folks.

Also you've got to remember (I know this is hard to believe 😛) but not everyone overclocks. Some are quite content to have 2.93GHz and stock everything. It's still a beast.

Yep, to some people plopping the chip in and firing it up is all the time they want to spend on configuring their rig. Let's face it, if you have the dough to buy processors like that comfortably, then your time is probably valuable 😉

And, like you said, it's a beast at that speed even. It's kind of too bad they didn't give us 3.2 ghz for 1K though...

Well said. Not everyone is looking for a bargain. I'm sure there are plenty of people out there with lots of money to spend who want the best but still want the do-it-yourself experience.
