***Intel Core 2 Duo Processor E7200 2.53GHz 1066MHz 3MB LGA775 CPU, Retail***

Good news that they're shipping, but at $12 s/h to NJ, I'll order from buy.com for $146 (s/h included) and hope they get theirs SOON.

Sigh... just received my 9600GT yesterday and, running SDmarks on it, decided to further OC my processor. 'Went to bed puzzled as the SDmarks were decreasing as I OC'd... and today it won't boot. 'Must've turned up a V too high and fried first one proc, then the other! Doh! Dumb! Perhaps when the replacement CPU arrives I'll find it's something else... like the m/b.

Edit: Curse you!!! 'Couldn't take it, and ordered one. 'Have to fidn out if the CPU's the cause of the system failure last night. Sigh.... $163 to NJ.

I'm probably going to bite -- but on the E7300 with the 10x multi, after the initial feeding frenzy and jacked up prices abate.

I'll wait till it's $133 as promised, hopefully with free shipping on egg.

My CPU (in sig) still provides plenty of kick for the games and apps I run. 😉

That's a good idea, though I'm itching to try one out. Of course I've got spare CPUs all over the place (including E3110 and Q6600) but that's the life of an enthusiast...

This chip sounds like a shoe-in for a BSEL mod. IMO the 1066->1333 mod is easier than the 800->1066 mod, and MUCH easier than the 800->1333 mod. This chip should/could/might be able to do 3.16GHz on default Vcore, thus making this work on just about any board that "officially" supports FSB1333. Benefits on even overclockable motherboards might be lower memory multipliers available plus higher CPU strap, to allow better overclocking. Also, just because it can be done. 😀

Sheesh, this makes me want to upgrade my HTPC even though my x2 5200+ @stock is more than sufficient. Imagine underclocking and undervolting the chip to run nice and cool...

What about the heat issue ?
Will there be any problems with heat ?

Not a very interesting product at that price range.

Doesn't overclock as well as the E8400 and has 1/2 the L2 cache, yet is only a bit cheaper. IMO it would be foolish not to spend a little more and get either an E8400 or a Q6600.

meh... i'd be moving from an e4400 to an e7200. it's a good change imo.

but i'll be waiting till prices come down as well.

Count me as part of the itchy yet waiting for the E7300 and lack of feeding frenzy. And while maximum overclocks may not be as high, ability to OC to well over 3 ghz with a budget board and 4 gigs nearly free RAM is a giant plus for me. Half the cache should not be a problem -- the E2/E6 series seem to have a diminishing result for cache over 2MB.

In conclusion, yay the replacement for my E2180 may soon be released! By the time I need it it should dip to around $100.

It seems it's at least 10% behind the E8000 series in games, and especially in valve source based games. That cache is important for games.

E8400 still seems like the good bet for games.

I heard somewhere Intel will "flood" the market with 45nm cpus like in June. So let's see if that's true, maybe we can get a 45nm cheaply then. Now I think evey vendor's gonna charge a premium for them.

hmmm my Quad heats up my room a bit more than I would like think "down grading" to one of these would help much with total heat output?

The quad core is pretty energy efficient, and under load, they would theoretically use about the same power, because the quad just distributes load across all 4 chips.

Kickass chip.

E7200 > E8400 ?

Any comparisons... ?

yeah i'd like to see them too...i would imagine that the E8400 would be faster than the E7200.

Here goes some game benches in the 3 core amd article on anandtech.
The 8400 is a very good buy compared to the 7300 imho.

At the current intro-gouging it may not be worth it, but within a month when prices settle down, it would be a fun cpu to play with. I think it would be a nice upgrade from my e4300 which I could probably fetch $80.00 for. You have no idea how much performance and satisfaction these budget chips offer! We don't do it so much for the savings as we do it for the thrill!
I'm excited to get my hands on one of these things to see how far it can be pushed.

The E7200 is Now Available at Buy.com for $146.

Dam it, I knew it, I knew it, I knew it, I knew it: as soon as my order shipped eWiz, (for $163), it came back in stock at Buy.com for $146 (free s/h). To add insult to injury, the eWiz order will arrive the afternoon of the morning I leave town for a week. 🙁 Oh, the humanity of it! :brokenheart:
