OK, I ordered a ... i3-8100 quad-core Coffee Lake! I had a stack of $10 off $100+ order coupons that Newegg slipped into some of my recent orders that had been piling up, and I had honestly been ignoring them, but then I started thinking the other day, I should take advantage of some of those coupons, plus, Intel CPUs are rarely discounted, and while the CFL CPUs are still at list, then list - coupon == discounted price.

So, the i3-8100 was $119.99, minus $10. I think $0.99 shipping.

Now I need a board. (Going to re-use some of my RAM, can't afford any fancy DDR4 for it.) Prefer ITX?

Seems weird that the boards haven't shown up en-mass yet.

Edit: My board!

I'm thinking of turning this into a pfsense box. Since I now have gigabit internet, I would like to build myself a really NICE router-box. And that ITX board has TWO Intel GigE ports, and an M.2 socket (or two, one on the back too).

ASRock Z370 mITX has been leaked some time ago. Im going to buy the H370 version, when it will be released(early 2018).

Ok I changed my mind I am in for a 8700k!! the $400 price point was holding me back but now that they dropped it down $25 bucks and I have a $25 discount coupon that makes it only $350.00 which to me is completely doable. I just need a motherboard which I can't seem to find any.. 🙁

I'm curious: Why are you moving from an 1800X to an 8700K?

I'm guessing they are moving from 1800x to 8700k for that sweet single thread performance. I'd be curious to know real world differences though since I may wind up going with a 1700x(OC to 1800) if the shortages turn up real..... or CDW-G gets no stock.

Single thread performance is so, so sweet, but the 1800X is still pretty solid in this department.
