While I really like the concept, how does this relate to CPUs and Overclocking?

If you read the OP, you'll see that the question originally was what hardware (including CPU) is likely to be used to for this. Then as usual other related sub-topics that may not strictly be CPU specific pop up as the discussion progresses.

I keep wondering - if intel is building some advanced decoder pipe for video only somehow based on quicksync - just with more quality to it.

More transister budget dedicated to it - so to speak.

This has to work where people have shitty connections - not just kansas city 1gbps fiber.

Some cutdown version of ATOM with more dedicated fixed blocks for AV decoding perhaps?
Wouldn't intel's experience allow them to create some internal codec format - that would be much better than the current codecs?

I just hope they include a very good media player too, which includes support for lots of A/V formats, codecs, etc. Not some kindergarden player like most TVs and blu-ray players have. I wonder if all codecs can be supported in hardware though. Otherwise they must provide enough CPU capacity to fall back to software decode. Will an Atom CPU really be able to handle software decode of e.g. 1080p60 streams at high bitrate? Perhaps a Celeron instead?
